Anamorphic Cinemascope in Native 1920x810 MJPEG Mode

It's been a long time from the early days of GH1 hack. Did we ever get close to 4:3 shooting ? Is there any hope for X2 anamorphic adapters to be used without cropping ?

Although it is possible to resize the frame of the MJPEG 4:3 VGA mode, I wasn't able to get reliable performance on the GH1 with a large frame size. In the 75Mbps Peak Reliability Patch, I programmed the GH1's VGA mode to produce a 960x720 video frame with a 35Mbps bitrate, for shooting iPad-compatible videos. This seemed like the most practical use for VGA mode.

On the GH2, however, I was able to program a 2160x810 VGA frame size with a 100Mbps bitrate. This is well-suited for use with X2 anamorphic lenses, producing videos in the correct aspect ratio that do not need to be unsqueezed. To produce a standard widescreen aspect ratio, you would crop the 2160x810 frame down to 1920x810 in post.

Here is a downloadable version of this anamorphic MJPEG patch for the GH2. It can be combined with the AVCHD settings from any GH2 patch:
