Anamorphic Cinemascope in Native 1920x810 MJPEG Mode

is there a patch that just crops the 16:9 image to 2.35? something you can use without the need of an anamorphic lens???? i dont have 800 bucks to drop on an anamorphic lens.
 
lpowell. You mentioned that it's possible to shoot w/o an anamorphic lens, upscale to 1080, and still get semi-vertically stretched bokeh. I tried this by shooting a scene with your anamorphic settings (sans adapter) and then shooting the same scene in 1920x1080 avchd and... they look identical in terms of bokeh, i.e., no vertical stretching on the mjpeg. My mjpeg workflow: shoot the scene, import onto mac and uprez via compressor to 1920x1080 (yes, i double checked that the original footage was 1920x810), brought it in to fcp and... no dice on the bokeh. Am I missing something?
 
When I tried this with a fast lens, I got what you described as "semi-vertically stretched bokeh". It wasn't as strong an effect as a real anamorphic lens, but was noticeable. I'll have to try it again and see what happens.
 
Lpowell, can you give some tips "how to" with this babys.I've tryed everythink mentioned ,but notjing works well.

I wish Iwish....Wish I could use MJPEG at 25P. The quality is amazing. but only at 1080p30 on both gh1 and gf1..

can I use the Century Optics 37mm 16:9 Widescreen Adapter on both pancake 14 and 20mm and a nikon lens with Filter Thread of 52mm??? without any step up rings and bullocks =)
 
I've successfully used the Century Optics 37mm Widescreen Adapter with the Lumix 20mm pancake without vignetting problems. I suspect the Lumix 14mm may be too wide to avoid vignetting. I've also successfully tried a 35mm Canon FD prime with the Century Optics, which has 52mm filter threads like your Nikon. Both lenses will require a 52-37mm step-down ring to work with the Century Optics.
 
nice one! You reckon the pancake 20mm shud be fine attaching in that way without wrecking the pancake lens after a couple of days???
was thinking of the focus moving barrels?

I prefer this setup ,, instead of getting the whooper LA7200 with rods and all
 
The Lumix 20mm pancake lens requires a 46-37mm step-down ring to work with the Century Optics widescreen adapter. The adapter is very light weight and the step-down ring provides enough gap for the lens barrel to fully retract. I've used this combo for months without and problems.
 
I'm thinking about getting the century optics 16:9 37mm to use with the 20mm pancake and a minolta md 50mm. From what I understand this works with the 20, but I'm wondering if it would work on the minolta. After getting the correct step down ring 49mm to 37mm will the rear glass of the century optics be big enough to cover the front glass of the minolta lens? Has anybody used the 37mm century optics adapter on minolta or pentax manual focus lenses?

lens must have lower than attached adapters or equal thread size, otherwise you will have vignetting, or usable range will be narrowed to tele only.
 
the 20mm pancake filter thread is 46mm and the adapter is 37mm and from what I've read there is not vignetting. On the 20mm lens there is a lot of space between the 46mm filter threads and the glass. On the minolta md 50mm the glass is wider than on the 20mm. Its filter thread is 49mm but there is still some space between the thread and the glass.
 
ok. not right word choosen.
panasonic pancake have optical hole approx 0.45 of filter thread and diagonal angle of view 57°, and lens to filter height are small - some mm - so it may be normally used,
but on minolta md 50 optical hole are 0.65 of filter (=32mm) and angle 47° and lens to filter distance are also significant (approx 10mm) ... angle and distance via simple math calculation you will get optical hole for attachment approx 42mm ... you think use 37 mm - so without real test you will not knew about vignetting but it's have high possibility to exist ...

Thanks for the numbers. A 37mm adapter on a lens with about 42mm optical hole does not sound promising, I think you are right it probably will have vignetting. I'm going to hold of buying that adapter. The panasonic 7200 may be the way to go if I want to use the 50mm.
 
The Century Optics 37mm anamorphic adapter works without vignetting on my Konica 40mm f1.8 lens (55mm filter ring) and on my Canon 50mm f1.4 lens (52mm filter ring). In my experience, most manual focus prime lenses 35mm and above will work with this adapter, so long as they have a filter barrel that does not rotate when the lens is focused.

your konica have optical hole 26mm+some mm (not bigger than 5mm) that come from lens angle and distance to filter, that summary are lower than 37
canon = 34mm+angular to filter difference quite small (3-4mm max), so vignette will not be visible (as seems that are at 0-1mm of hole) , except if used in low lighting environment, but also will not be very noticeable - here all will depends on size of adapter 52->37.

only mentioned minolta md 50 are under big question - take a look on that lens construction (especially lens to filter size, in comparison to used by you )
