Question: will simply having a 1.5 or 2x Anamorphic adapter get us the oval OOF highlights or bokeh?
I think the reason the panasonic doesn't is because it doesn't have the oval bit.

Dude, you are not alone.I want the HAWK look: http://www.claudiomiranda.com/lenstest/index.html -- See Claudio Miranda's RED Anamorphic Tests for reference.
In another lens, I've seen anomalies such as halo bokeh, where they look like little doughnuts floating in the background. I have no idea what causes that.
you're taking it apart right, a lens with recessed front glass and a couple of step-up/down rings and you're in business.
you could do that with a bunch of 49-52mm step-up and down rings. maybe 6 rings?
Mirror lens ?
