An Age-Old Thread, but I need help.

I've done lots of research on many prosumer cameras. And obviously, the number one 3CCD camera of choice right now is the DVX100B.

I'm 18, I love movies, I've taken TV Production my past 2 years in high school and am continuing it now in college. My ultimate goal is to make movies. I've got about two grand saved and don't know what to get. I've been working with a Sony HC46 for a couple of years and it's time to step it up a little. I had my eye on the Sony VX2100 for a while. I skateboard and it's a very popular camera in the sport. That's one thing I'll definitely be doing with whatever camera I buy. I know for sure that it's not about the camera, it's all about the person behind it.

So with that said, B&H sells the DVX100B for about $500 more than the VX2100. Is it worth the extra $500? Or am I fine with the Sony-style cameras that I'm so used to using? Please lend me your knowledge on these cameras. Thanks.

24p and 30p capability
real image customization
xlr inputs and a much better audio set-up
manual lens controls

So you decide if that is worth it. The VX2100 is a good camera for what it is....a consumer camera that works great in low light. The DVX is a prosumer camera....its going to have alot of professional features and be alot more versitale in the long run.

Unless you plan to throw everything on auto, then get a Sony.

haha nice. i like the whole "dvx's are like subarus and hondas". that's great because i have a 98 accord and it's like a freaking tank. thanks for the help, guys.

for a brand new dvx and 2 year mack warranty on B&H, it'll cost about 2800. is this the best deal i can get? or is there anywhere better? (i would prefer the warranty)

Seriously, your bet bet is to email the top dealers and ask for a best price quote for immediate order. This can occasionally uncover great deals & costs nothing to ask.

Be sure to indicate if you'll accept used/demo/openbox, ask what warranty offered, and be sure to specify no greygoods. Also check marketplace forum - often some excellent deals there from people moving up.
