Amazon Pricing VERY confusing. PLEASE help!

Amazon lists the Panasonic Pro AG-DVX 100B Proline for $3180 AND the Panasonic AG-DVX 100BP Proline for about $2300. I have spent hours on different web sites trying to figure out what the difference is. CNET's 2006 review lists prices from $1800-$2400.
B&H price is $2499. Maybe the Amazon price is a KIT. It doesn't say it is. I went to the Panasonic web site thinking that there might be two DVX 100B models hoping to discover what makes the price differences but had no luck as there is only one DVX 100B model.

Please help with this price confusion.

Thanks,
Gregory

It would help if we could see the listings that you're talking about specifically - but my first guess is either that the more expensive one is a kit... or simply a shop trying to overcharge people for no good reason.

Just my guess.

Hm - took a quick look - and I'm assuming this is the listing you're talking about:
**EDITED** (weird... the link I was just looking at from a shop called "AllAboutElectronics" seems to have vanished)

If so... then yeah, looks like "AllAboutElectronics" is just charging way too much for the camera.

Why buy from somone off amazon instead of going to a known authorized dealer?
Specialized Communications, B&H, Abel Cine Tech... or any other number of places will give you a better price and keep you from getting scammed in some way.
(not saying these guys are scamming anyone... just overcharging)

When making a purchase like this - it definitely pays to go with an authorized dealer.
It's really the only way to insure you're getting what you're paying for - and then within that list of authorized dealers you can shop around for the best price.

Just my 2 cents.

Luis - Thanks for taking the time to into this and comment. I order most items from Amazon with great success; however this is the first item that I have seen listed that makes no sense at all in pricing. Given your suggestions I will look at an authorized dealer.

Sorry, nothing wrong with Amazon over all - I've just found amazon to be confusing ever since they started allowing pretty much anyone to setup shop there. I'm sure there are a few authorized dealers on Amazon - so you might want to start there.

But basically, your first reaction was right - the prices you were seeing were a bit off.
Looking at something like B&H can always be helpful to see what the going rate is for these sorts of things - even if you don't buy from them, they're pretty much in line with the average.

I'm pretty sure the P on the end means NTSC and E means PAL. For example, my DVX100 is really a AG-DVX100BP and a European model for instance would be a AG-DVX100BE. But if it doesn't say E I'm not sure but I'll assume its PAL since I think its a little pricier for the PAL version.

Check out this thread and pay attention to Panasonic's rep Jan, her posts are the ones to be trusted when talking about these kind of things.

Longshanks and Luis - Thanks for the helpful links. Jan's posts were very enlightening. Now, I feel at ease with knowing how to read and understand the different model numbers.

Again a BIG thanks to both of you!

I like ordering my stuff off B&H because they're generally cheaper. On the bottom of my NTSC 100B's EVF, it says AG-DVX100BP so yes the E is PAL.
