Alternative editing codecs to Apple ProRes 422

Hi guys,

I don't currently have Final Cut installed. This means I will spend tonight editing on Adobe Premiere CS3. But because of this, I don't have Apple ProRes as a codec option when transcoding my footage in MPEG StreamClip.

So my question is: What other codecs are good to edit with?

Here is a link to a screenshot of the codecs I have available in MPEG Streamclip (Windows version):

Lemme know which one is a worthy substitute to Apple ProRes. But please look at the link of the screenshot first, and only recommend codecs that are available to me currently.

Thanks!

I used to work with avid's DNxHD, a high quality intermediate format just like prores, but this one is free and works in windows

The 8-bit format is the one available for free, right? When would you use the 10-bit format and what are the real differences? So after installing the avid codec, you can start editing on it on your preferred editor whether Windows or OSX?

No, 8 or 10 bit is free. Use 10bit if you intend to grade heavily, or are headed to film-out or other demanding use. And yes, DNxHD crosses platforms perfectly. Avid is both PC and Mac and often editors are working on both platforms.
