Alright kids; get your butts in shape !

No ****ing way

Damn kimko

You are inspiration. I spent my entire life either drinking too much or doing stuff.

Okay, that was the younger years, but I smoked like a chimney (As most of you know) for 21 years.

-

In the last year I have really evaulated some things; life expectancy ... ?

-

You should do the mud run with me and TC!!!!

i guess when you have a kid or kids you start to rethink...... when and where is it, but i don't go over 6 miles, i have a bum foot( from operation in 97)

A 10k is 6.2 miles, and the Mud Run is at Camp Pendleton.

If you think your knee will hold, you should definitely come out!

I would love to have Kimko runnign with us

-

I have been junkying lately at the gym; sans my BIRD FLU over the last 3 weeks

Nothing cooler than just pushing it until you just cant move anymore

Maybe some of you can help me with this...

I've been a pretty big guy my whole life..not fat by any means, but just big. I've always had a bit of pudge, and that fluctuates all the time, but for the past 6-7 years I've weighed anywhere from 200-220...

I got down to 200 after running 3-6 miles about 3 times a week for a whole summer and eating about as healthy as it gets...

Most of my friends are able to eat just about anything and not gain an ounce, whereas my body will store every last bit of food I put in it. I know it must have something to do with my metabolism, because I've retained pretty much all the muscle I gained since highschool, and my friends who eat anything will also lose their muscle if they stop working out.

My goal is to reach 185, without losing a significant amount of muscle, by the end of summer... right now i'm 215. I plan on eating right, working out, and running...but my metabolism is as slow as a turtle and it could use a boost...I've seen pills on tv and in magazines...

have any of you tried these metabolism pills at all? do they work?

Pills are no good.

I'm the same as you, I'm around 205-210, and I wanna get to around 190.

Do you workout at the gym? if you do, try doing "Hypertrophy", you're gonna see a difference in 4 weeks.

Your body has a memory, don't do the same thing over and over and over again, 4 weeks is like a limit, then change it up.

Go to www.bodybuilding.com/forum, read up on the "Fat loss" section, I've also got a account there but havn't posted in a while, those facts on those pages are incredible, check em out.

Good luck buddy.

I'm so inspired by Larry here, that I think I too am going to get in shape. I plan on quitting smoking May 1st ( I read it's good to set a date 1-2 weeks in advance ) and I am definitely going to start hitting the gym as well. I shall post progress updates here as well just to keep myself accountable to the people I truly admire and respect, fellow DVX/HVX users.

You both need to play a little rugby if you want a workout. I'm way too old for that now but I played in college...I was a prop. You went out and busted your ass in the game then had to start all over to make sure you "won" the party afterward...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Yeah, I've watched guys play rugby in the park and it looks pretty brutal. I bet that's a great workout. I have a feeling I'd be injured all the times if I took up that sport though.

The key is if you are going to get sugar, try and get it from natural sources. But try and limit the sugar intake. The body just doesnt need it. But damn it, get your vitamin C!

Oh, I didn't say it ws better for you, only that its calorie count is generally lower. I only drink Coke (my favorite substance in the world) sparingly.

Totally stoked on the run with you; and of course the beer after words. we should do Buca's

Just took my dad there two days ago. He's never been to one.

I played in college. I was utility. I still have scars, and I'm betting later on in life I'm going to have aches I otherwise wouldn't have . . .

tjohara99 - I would be willing to bet, that if you followed just the fitness portion of "Body For Life" you would see a change in how your body responds. It is amazing that the more lean muscle you build and the more active you keep that lean muscle, the more it eats fat. If you check out my blog (link in my sig) over the next couple days I will be describing that fitness program...and then over the next however long it takes me I will be describing my actual workout (exercise w/ description, sets, reps, interval, etc).

I don't usually hold to "programs", I think most of them are a gimmick, but I have done this one before and it actually works. So I'm always telling people about it.

spooky - same to you, check out my blog over the next few days and see if the program I outline there works for you. It is a serious commitment, but aren't we worth it? :)

The worst thing you can do is think you're on some kind of "diet" or "program" -- in your mind, it has an end. It shouldn't. It's a lifestyle choice. You commit to healthy habits of good food and good exercise for life, or you might as well forget it.

We definitely are worth it Larry! ... and my wife and kids are worth it too. I owe it to them to take care of myself the best that I can. I think that that sentiment alone will do wonders for my motivation.

Agreed...that's the problem with all these miracle drugs/diets, they are a temporary fix. They don't change how a person ultimately feels about themself, nor does it train the person how to properly live and eat. So once they are done with the pill/plan they return to their old lifestyle and then wonder why they have returned to being overweight, out of shape and still unhappy.

That says it all, right there. It is a lifestyle change or you continue the yo-yo process. I have done a pretty good job at my lifestyle change. Now I really need to get some exercise back into the routine...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I hardly ever eat pasta or pizza anymore...just the very occasional treat. Concerning bread, I buy low carb bread. Potatoes are pretty much gone. I did have garlic/rosemary mashed potatoes with a rack of lamb the other day but that was a rare occurrence. Meat, fish and fowl make up the bulk of my diet. I am able to eat quite a few different vegetables.

But if you do strength training you can continue to eat carbs...in fact you need carbs.
Yeah...but I ain't doin' strength training. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) I'm willing to do cardio and some crunches and pushups but I'm not putting one foot inside a gym :furious3:

Maybe some bicycle riding now that "winter" is over...:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)
