Ok, so the Arri Alexa records @ 2K RAW. Everyone and their mother (RED guys too!) are sooooo obsessed w/ 4K for the big screen. Just read in American Cinematographer that the new film "Prom" (not my kinda film, but i'll take my daughter) was shot with the Alexa @ 2K. Im very interested to see how this looks at my 4K Digital Proj. cinema.

keep in mind, just because they have a 4k projector doesn't mean they'll be projecting in 4k. there's a very good chance they'll just be putting it in the 2k mode and project in 2k for all there 2k films. until we start seeing 4k DI's being more common, it may still be a year or two off until we see real 4k projections at the theaters. The cinemas buying them now is just kind of prepping for the future.

If you've watched a DVD up rez'd to 1080 on your HD TV, then watched a blu-ray and noticed just a slight increase in detail, that will be the kind of change you'll see on the big screen between 2k and 4k.

Not really true on the 2k verse 4k on the big screen comment. If you get close enough, yeah, but it's boderline a gimmick. It certainly is a gimmick regarding the RED. the chances of any indie film showing in 4K are literally about 10000:1 or worse.

Who is the best DP working? Deakins? He has approved the Alexa only for his digital shoots. I dont see why you need to go further than that really.
