Has anyone here tried to hook the HVX200 via Component into an AJA IO HD box and capture ProRes HQ straight to disk? Would love to see how the quality compares to DVCProHD.
I just got my IO HD and HD10AVA (Component -> HD-SDI converter). First initial tests show greatly improved color separation and far less noise while grabbing ProResHQ over DVCProHD - especially in the blue channel. I need to make more tests, but I'll post results as soon as possible. I will also be grabbing uncompressed directly from the HVX to compare. Hopefully I'll be able to to a couple of green-screen tests too.
Yeah I think there's a huge benefit to be had- primarily for cleaner compositing and then grading. Yes DVCPROHD is a great high quality codec. But put it next to ProRes HQ on a nice monitor with a waveform and you'll see the differences.
