AJ-PCD2 in stock!

Spec-Comm,

you don't ship downunder to Australia, maybe you should.

a local Aussie dealer here is selling this simple, single reader for $570

Panasonic AJ-PCD2G Single P2 Card Reader Price Inc GST: $570.00

my currency convertor tells me it should be about $420AUD plus shipping....

B&H when they get stock can supply at $400 to us Aussie downunder folk.

Cheers

Hello Tom,

We can ship internationally. Our webstore only accepts orders for US & Canada because there are some extra steps involved with international orders, and the automated shipping quote doesn't calculate shipping outside the US correctly. We can take them over eMail or phone though.

On a related note, we've been considering a forwarding service, Bongo International, which would be integrated onto our webstore to make international ordering easier. We would still offer direct orders for things like parts, that would ship via postal services. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here is our current international shipping terms.

Best,

Hello Jasmine,

Tar for the reply, yes i'll order soon. I also need the electronic cable that connects the flip out screen to the camera (SPX800). I'll be in touch on that too via PM.

Cheers from downunder

Does anyone have a short review of the USB reader?

Haven't seen one and would love know comparison transfer times.

Hi Tom,

I think you'd find a local Dealer who would sell you a PCD2 for around $420, plus GST. Nothing much we can do about the GST. Anyway, I'd be suprised if you saved much by the time delivery from the US is added. Support local Dealers and you get a local warranty.

Hi Rob,
My SPX800 flip out screen has just stopped working completely now, the plastic flat ribbon cable is just plain worn out from use, so that will take priority over the reader purchase for now...
thanks , and i'll keep looking for one of those $420 dealers in OZ you eluded to.

Cheers

FYI, i got mine yesterday and it transfered P2 cards flawlessly. i use a macbook pro & a mac pro both running snow leopard. finally its easy to input my footage. it's definitely worth the cash for me.

my experience was about a gig a minute. fast enough for me. i was using an older mac laptop that had the P2 slot and transferring it to a removable drive then moving onto my other editing computer. the old laptop was starting to give me trouble with crashes and took multiple restarts to get it to stay stable. so multiple P2 cards were hit and miss at times. it was about ease of use, getting it into my system without adding another step and not having to bring a second laptop just for transferring.

hope this helps.

Transfer times are going to depend on what you're transferring to. USB2 should support transfer rates in the realm of 2 gigs per minute to a fast hard drive, with "verify" turned off, and 1 gig per minute if you're doing "verify". If going to an older computer, a gig a minute is probably to be expected.

Just FYI, i'm on a macbook pro, 6months old, maxed out ram. during my test, all transfer rate times were basically the same whether transferring to a rugged drive, a g-force 3TB raid drive or direct to the laptop hard drive. (1 gig per minute.) As mentioned by Mr. Green, perhaps the "verify" setting is slowing down things. i'm interested in knowing how to adjust that. speed is always great.

thanks
glenn
