AJ-D200 DVC PRO CAMERA - Firewire - anything for outputting video/audio?

Hey there guys -

Behold the AJ-D200 DVC PRO CAMERA

Basically this cam here, I have the opportunity of um playing with! Yes I know its a museum piece hehe, but for you vets out there that remember it... (or any technological geniuses!)

Is there any kind of reasonable method to transfer footage from these cams without having to utilise a tape deck? Naturally i presume a firewire can't be fitted - (and im sure it doesnt have a connector for one)

Any suggestions guys? Really appreciate it!
 
That camera should feed Composite out during recording and when you play back your tape in camera, and during recording you can loop audio through the XLR out to an external recorder, or out of the headphone jack during tape playback. That's the best you'll get without a proper deck to play your tape back.

I think some DVCPro cams had firewire out - not sure about this one. If it's on the camera, you could use it. Otherwise, they were designed to go with playback decks. If you're getting paid to use this you can probably buy a basic DVCPro playback only deck for $1,000 or so. If it's just for fun - well, hardly worth the expenditure.
 
DvcPro decks are going cheap on eBay. If you can find one an AJ-D 250 with the FireWire option, that is an excellent deck at a reasonable price. The AJ-455 came standard with FireWire. I had one of those 200s until about 2 years ago, when we went HD and I traded it in. Btw it will shoot 16x9.

I just did a quick search of DvcPro decks and found several in the $3-500 range that will work for this....

I've got a couple of these and I use the S-video and RCA audio outs into a DVX100A to transfer via firewire to a PC. Not ideal, but it does the job OK.
 
We use to use our old Digital 8 camera as a make shift analog to digital converter. Used it to transfer old VHS and it worked great.
