Ai Will Replace All Of Us In Production - The clock is ticking...

How is this different from the the current unending onslaught of Marvel/D.C./Star Wars movies? Formulaic and audience tested down to the frame. AI might be more imaginative than your typical Hollywood production...

Fascinating and slightly alarming. Watching Zone Out tells me that we still have some time before the takeover:

I think it will be a long time before writing and directing are overtaken by AI. It may never happen. Film is interesting to people because it explores humanity, which is all about gray areas -- the space between the 1s and 0s. I'm not sure that a machine could ever get there.

However, I think that editing may be more conducive to an algorithm. Especially if there is a beat-driven music track. You'll upload your raw 16K light field footage to the cloud, pick a handful of existing titles that you'd like to pull editing characteristics from, and input one last existing film to use as a template for color. Choose your cast of known (royalties paid) or unknown/virtual actors for the system to deepfake over your placeholder actors. Boom! The internet will be overrun with this semi auto-generated content.

Netflix have being using the same AI that they use to predict your compatibility with films to "read" scripts and generate a report on it's appeal to an audience. They've been doing this for a while. They feed in the script and have it project who among their subscription base would have a high probability of liking or being "compatible" with the script. They then use that to help understand what to spend on that film.

Isn' the real issue that algorithms can't innovate ?

Invention. Unique invention. Can an AI do that ?

And frankly, we all think we know what we like in a film or story. But it's often the films that challenge us, that are unexpected. We may not even "like" them, but they become part of the global film canon.

I once heard from someone in AI development, that the real test of an AI will be if it can "get" a joke.....And not just analyse and determine when a joke is being told (which is starting to happen), but actually experience humour....

What we're talking about here, is the next level again. Can an AI WRITE a joke ?

Maybe, to some point - but it doesn't matter because humans misread other humans every day.

Wait, isn't this good news?? Just think how much more time we'll all be able to spend on sites like this then! Talking shop rather actually doing anything!!

Imagine Entertainment, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's company, are also using AI to sift through screenplay submissions. They are doing open script calls and using an algorithm to select from over ten thousand applicants.

I should have kicked Brian Grazer in the nads 25 years ago when I had the chance . All this A.I. nonsense would never have happened.

Add another bit and you've got the space between ;)

At some point, the success of this work will depend on whatever germ of an idea the human has to feed into the machine, plus how good they are at curating its output. There are still a few crucial places for human judgement to intervene, you just dont need any of us pesky technicians anymore

Hey JB - did you move to Canada to escape covid? Or is that just your temporary location?

You could program an AI to innovate or repeat joke formulas. But it won't have any idea of what's good that's new, so it won't be any more useful than a human writer spitballing.

But most media that is produced is not really novel anyway...

I read somewhere that AI will take over most routine tasks and the human experience will be premium. You call your travel agent and you get an AI, it won't even be obvious that you're talking to a machine. But the 1%ers will get a human concierge.

Someday we'll be watching the latest 5-minute vertical masterpiece and say, "they're advertising this one as 100% human-written and directed and some of the actors are supposedly real humans too!" Reply: "just sounds like the latest gimmick"

The irony was the Grammarly ad that plays before that video. We're already using computers to make us sound more smarter and eloquenter. (writing that sentence took some effort to defeat auto-spell-correct)

Computers have been assisting us with everything we can enable them to do. The scary part is when they start thinking for us
