Ai Will Replace All Of Us In Production - The clock is ticking...

YouTube uses similar analysis.

"Do you prefer a political candidate A or B?"

"I hate B"

"Well, then, here are some more B ads. Maybe you'll change your mind".

Skip three months forward. The same ad pops up.

"Do you prefer a political candidate A or B?"

"I told you I hated B and now I also hate you for making me sit through all the B ads".

And, where I am pretty sure I fall way out of the accepted parameters, as I can watch everything from the old Soviet TV or film, classic operas and operettas, WWII channels, automobile and camera reviews, soccer and the NFL highlights, etc., I once got this question, "Are you the same person?'

Which also applies to households where different generations and sexes have different viewing habits under one account.

Computers have been assisting us with everything we can enable them to do. The scary part is when they start thinking for us

No worries. Technical advances have put fear in people at least since Socrates's time: "Socrates, who never wrote, said that the invention of writing would produce forgetfulness and only a semblance of wisdom, but not truth or real judgment. His student Plato, writing on a scroll, agreed, saying that writing was a step backward for truth."

Taxi drivers dont know their way around anymore. Stephen Hawking was forced to remember and work out equations in his head (which is truly remarkable considering their complexity). Did all that exercise contribute to his incredible number of incredible innovations?

Btw while we're on the subject, everyone should read the comic scifi short story "Trurl's Electronic Bard" by Stanislaw Lem. It's one of my favorites, about a robot poet, and it's only 10 pages. An excerpt:

The machine would let each challenger recite, instantly grasp the algorithm of his verse, and use it to compose an answer in exactly the same style, only two hundred and twenty to three hundred and forty-seven times better.

The machine quickly grew so adept at this, that it could cut down a first-class rhapsodist with no more than one or two quatrains. But the worst of it was, all the third-rate poets emerged unscathed; being third-rate, they didn't know good poetry from bad and consequently had no inkling of their crushing defeat.

I agree with the Borg, resistance IS futile. This is happening. If you are relatively young, I urge you to examine your future and try to gravitate your career and mindset to
a way of making a living that won't quickly and easily taken over by bots, Ai and predicitve algorithims. There should still be lots of jobs and careers that aren't ripe for
being overtaken by technology within your lifetime. If you're over 50, just settle in for the ride, we are the tail end of the analog humans.

I'm not 100% convinced because everything I've read suggests that AI is great for repetitive tasks but may never achieve general intelligence. (But I am stressfully looking up predictive articles :))

In fact, a lot of the advice given to people about AI-proofing their career involves seeking a more creative line of work, because that's what computers will have a hard time doing. (They lack common sense, for example.)

Of course, a lot of camerawork and media production is repetitive. So maybe it would be wise to move as much as possible in the direction of creating intellectual property or being a producer.

There will still be producers managing the AI.

Or maybe all that's left will be Ted Sarandos lying in a tanning bed with a bunch of electrodes on his skull transmitting his commands to a cloud of AI producer-directors

Invention. Unique invention. Can an AI do that ?

JB

No, AI is dumb as a log. When I buy a toaster, I get toaster ads for weeks.

GPT-3 and similar systems are writing articles since years now - like stock market news. It's basically wrapping charts and tables with standard sentences.
They tried that on opinion peaces - barely readable jibberish bullshit bingo. Same goes to music and poems - it's all generic, and you can see/hear it.
A kid just made a blog, written by AI - it's a joke.

Many years ago there was a website that generates scientific studies, that even fooled science publications.
But that doesn't mean the AI was so good. It only means how easy it is to fool so called "experts" if you have a really good memory (database).

AI is basically nothing than a big database, with some clever algorithms under the hood, to combine bits from that database, and spit that out really fast.

But there is nothing "intelligent" or original there. What's outside the data base, can't be generated or processed by AI.

I can't see any AI or robot taking away my job anytime soon.
There is more to real human intelligence, than just a big database and some algorithms.

How is this different from the the current unending onslaught of Marvel/D.C./Star Wars movies? Formulaic and audience tested down to the frame. AI might be more imaginative than your typical Hollywood production...

Decided this was worth a quote to reinforce the idea.

Bam. Out of the park. Mic drop. ;-)

I see virtual production being more of a move than AI. It will always be about money in the end. Virtual means less of everything - locations, salaries, risks for stunts etc... All you need is a computer team. The "Actors" will be out there to be purchased by the dozens. In the end, it will still be a story and that is usually all that matters. We are not there yet but it is exponential growth on the way up. 5-10 years and I think the CG people will be pretty much buttoned up. Take an "Avatar" approach and the audience will suspend realism for you anyway.

So I would tell younger folks to still learn a craft, but learn how to do it virtually.

I've filmed several big-name CEOs talking about AI lately including Satya Nadella at Microsoft and the bosses of BP, HSBC and Unilever. It seems it's all they want to talk about these days. Can't tell you what they said as I've signed NDAs but there's no doubt AI will be a hot topic for some time and there's no doubt either it will take a lot of jobs. Millions of them.

Not even fighter pilots are safe:

A few components to Ai in society replacing jobs and careers. I agree, Ai isn't there yet, but by definition, Ai is designed to learn and become better at the tasks and processes it is conceived for.
I have a distant relative who is an Ai researcher for NASA/JPL and he has shared some interesting things with me

Some social and societal things are happening that will accelerate Ai's inroads into society. Events like the pandemic and quarantine. Ai and Robots don't cough or
exhale, spreading dangerous viruses. If they are around humans, they are much easier and simpler to disinfect than messy humans. Most of the scientists tell us
that COVID 19 is just the tip of the iceburg, that we will experience more of these type pandemics in the coming years.

Without trying to get political, at least here in the U.S., there is a continual strong directive to unionize every task and job in society. A capitalist society will always be
resistant to unions simply because it makes business's lives more difficult and makes trying to maximize profits much more challenging. Witness AB-5 and its devastating economic effect
on California, to date. AB-5 is the State working hand in hand with unions to eliminate every independent contractor in the state. If Joe Biden wins the election, there are already
rumblings that his administration will adopt a national version of AB-5, attempting to eliminate all independent contractors from the United States. Every job, will in effect become unionized with corporate taxes, worker
comp insurance, payroll. The politicians and policymakers do not want anyone earning money independently because this limits their control and power by virtue of how the tax
system, with it's ridiculous labrynth of write offs, loopholes and income reporting, makes controlling and micromanaging income and taxes more difficult. This, in turn will unleash a concerted push to replace human workers with Ai, Robots and other forms of non human labor.

Non human labor, at least for the foreseeable future, cannot be unionized, which makes it a very appealing alternative to, once again, messy humans. All of these directives have
greater impacts in society as a whole than specifically in production but as we all know, production as an industry, is affected by societal norms when it comes to labor and employment.
So much of what we do is reptitive and as much as we like to think of ourselves as creatives, we all know that most of us spend a lot of our time in our jobs doing things that are
repetitive and non-creative.

Joseph Schumpeter, is that you?

I had no idea who that is or if you are complimenting or insulting me so I just looked him up and I still have no idea if you're insulting me, but at least I know who is now LOL.

Wonder what he'd make of the current crop of less than useless self-serving politicians...

I thought AB-5 was specifically addressing Uber drivers and they wrote it too broadly?

Anyways I doubt Biden could do that nationally even if he wanted to. California has a single-party supermajority. National congress barely gets anything done because of the balance of power

Now, you can casually drop the name into a conversation.

I remember that time DLD and Schumpeter were at the local Publix debating if they should try the red barszcz or the white barszcz.
