Ag-hvx200apj??

ive requested receipt info, where it was purchased from and the serial number. will wait to see whats said but ive resigned myself to the fact this was a bad idea. whoops!

I would definitely not send him money no matter what he says. More red flags than Tiananmen Square. The beauty of community (which eBay started out to be...) is that we help each other in these situations and hey, you're not out a dime so as the seller says, " no worries".

I would highly recommend contacting eBay as your next step.

actually, after a bit of searching i have discovered ebay will provide you with a sellers contact info. so i have his phone number, name etc anyway. will call tomorrow i think or wait to see what he says next. if its not favourable, will defo report him to ebay. if the situ was reversed for something that big, i would at least give out my phone number!

on the flip side, my info was automatically sent to him too. but only phone number and general location - no address.

sorry just seen your response steve - yeah ur right. ah well, lesson learned. ah, i see ur local!

My guess would be that he is legit. If he was a scammer why would he post the rear seats of a car. It is far too random. And all the photo's are taken with the same camera. I think there is a better chance of this guy being oblivious then a scammer.

Or he stole a van with a new HVX in the backseat, and now he's selling things off piece by piece...

I'd bail. While it's a very good deal, keep in mind why the auction ended so low-- most other bidders didn't trust him either.

As much as I hate the new eBay policy as a seller, the new "only buyers can leave negative feedback" really works in your favor -- he can't really do anything to you other than file a non-paying bidder report, which doesn't cause you any problems unless you have multiple of them within a period of time.

I really can't say about that one, but one of my friends, who really is quite brilliant, got scammed on ebay only once & it was when he bought a car seat...

But I am very hopeful you got a great deal on your camera and that will in turn lower the retail price of that camera in general... :)

Ebay's feedback feature does not work basically.

As a buyer who wanted to keep a good score, you were at the mercy of the sellers because they generally do not leave feedback until after you do. If you leave negative, they will return with the same. so, if you have a bad experience, you generally leave no feedback.

Last year I finally got my first negative piece of feedback after buying a $10 bike tool. The seller took a month to send it to me, shipped it ground after I paid for Priority. I wrote him asking for a refund on the shipping and he wrote me back saying I was a scammer. It was all very petty. I left him a "neutral" feedback saying it had taken way too long. He immediately retaliated with a "negative" for me saying that I was a scammer and to beware... I had pretty much decided I had had enough of ebay at that point and don't believe I've bought anything on there since...

yeah gotta say this whole thing has turned me off to ebay. been using it for years and its always been great but the trouble is now there are so many scam artists out there, its become pretty impossible to know who to trust!

again, all the input on this has been hugely appreciated. will keep updated with this. but i did not expect so much response!

latest mail from the seller - i requested the dealer it was bought from and serial number as well as receipt etc. cant produce any of it. thinking its best to pull the plug. it may well be a bargain from someone who has no clue, but its a $4000 risk im not too happy taking! Altho he seemed happy about my requesting his contact details from ebay, so I guess he must be the actual seller? Thoughts please!!

"Hello, I see that you requested my info which I don't mind now that I think about it I would have done the same. The situation is that my friend is going through a divorce, he lost his home, he doesn't have an ebay acct to sell so he asked me if I could sell it for him. He can't find the receipt and he thinks his wife either took it or is keeping it from him. This camera has never been used and if you still don't feel comfortable then we can cancel the transaction all together. Thanks for your concern!"

I would cancel the transaction or tell him you are actually going to be in La Puente on Saturday and would like to pick up the camera in person.

well ive said i would like to cancel the transaction. way too uncertain bout it all. thanks for all the input and advice. think im just going to have to try and find the extra funds and buy new from b&h. problem is i have to buy a new mac as ups destroyed my previous one when shipping to the US from the UK but wont pay out due to "improper packaging". which is apparently what they say for 95% of claims. but thats a whole other story......
