Ag-hpx500

BTW I was talking with my Panasonic reseller yesterday and he told me something like 16000€ for camera+4 16GB cards (no lens obviously). And here in Italy Panasonic usually has comparatively higher prices then in Usa. It appears they want to bite quite aggressively the market.

Now the HPX is out on the Panasonic homepage. Very VERY (and even Vari) promising. But will it ship for those 14.000$ with viewfinder and some P2 cards? (and do I have to pay some extra 1.000$ for Anton Bauer batteries and charger?) AND: will it be upgradeable for the AVC-intra codec?

Questions, questions and more questions... (at least fore somebody on a small budged who is use to the "all inclusive pricing" of 1/3" cameras)

HPX will likely be available in a variety of combinations of lenses, cards, etc. Usually when a pro camera body is listed it includes just that -- the body. Lens, power, and viewfinder are typically extra. In the case of the HPX500 it looks like the viewfinder is included too. So $14,000 (retail) gets you body + viewfinder; Jan said somewhere else that for around $22,000 you'd get body, lens, and cards (don't know if that included power or not).

HPX500 is not upgradeable to AVC-Intra.

Yes, I am sure he meant viewfinder. Jan did state in a thread that you would get body, lens, cards and now apparently viewfinder for the $22k. Power will be extra. Some already have AB power, but if you don't you will have to shell out for some sort of AB power/charger combo.

Yes Barry, Jan mentioned 22.000$ for a complete pack, but he didn't mention batteries. But only with power and at least one 16 giga P2 it would be REALLY complete. I would appreciate more details to be able to make the numbers up.

So, is the 500 the camera to get? for $14000 it seems like a good choice. I have read alot about the 2000 and now the 3000 is coming out. Is it worth an extra $14000 for the 2000 or is another 30,000 + worth it for the 3000.....just curious as to what other people are thinking about these P2 options for a shoulder mount HD camera.

Hi,

The packages should go up in the next day or so, but so far they all include 4 P2 cards(16GB), a CAC Lens, VF, Tripod Plate, Camera Body. I do have one inexpensive Canon package that has a pretty nice lens that is not CAC.

I hope this helps.

The price range on the packages vary and I am sure that the dealers on this site will chime in shortly with thier "street" prices. But is this the camera for you, it is if you 1. have the money to spend on all the accessories to make it a shooting camera, 2. you need/want a camera with an interchangeable lens, and 2/3" CCDs, and 3. you are looking to upgrade to a really wonderful camera, that is all of the HVX and more.

Best,

jan

READ some more! Compare the features, frame rates, etc. Ask yourself what features you need in a camera, what will you use it for, will it pay for itself? Once you answer these questions, you will know which camera is the one to get for you.

The packages are out, the cheapest is at over 27.000$ so goodbye 22.000$... maybe the difference is for the tripode plate that's included?:zombie_smiley:

But now everything comes down to the lens: there are several Canon and Fujinon lenses at a very close price level. Why so many similar packages, which is the best for what need? I´m a bit confused, I had expected packages with more difference in price and contend.

May the streetprice be with us!

Hi Joe,

When was the last time you paid list price for anything?

You should demo the camera with the lens that fits your needs and budget.

Best,

Jan

OK, these are the lenses of the packages:

1) Canon KJ16ex7.7B IRSD PS12 16X w/2X CAC lens

2) Canon KJ16ex7.7B KRSD PS12 16X CAC lens

3) Canon KJ20x8.5B KRS 20X non-CAC lens

4) Fujinon XA17x7.6BERM-M58B 17X w/2X CAC lens

5) Fujinon XA17x7.6BRM-M58B 17X CAC lens

For my kind of work I would rather prefer a lens with good wide angle than one with much focal length. I would apreciate it very much if somebody could give a short characterization of each lens - or the lens he knows.

The "17x7.6" means that it's a 17x zoom, with the widest angle being 7.6. 7.6 is decently wide on a 2/3" camera. Not super-exorbitantly-amazingly wide, but decently. I'd go with CAC over non-CAC. The 2X represents that there's an optical doubler on the lens, always nice to have but you'd have to decide whether it's worth paying for.

Looks like four of those lenses are almost identical in focal length/range, so your choice is basically made of these three parameters:
CAC or not
Doubler or not
Canon or Fuji

You can pretty much pick any of the above and mix & match and there's a lens up there that suits you, so Fuji/Doubler/CAC, or Canon/no-doubler/no-CAC, etc.

Thank you Barry! Two more questions:

1) What focal length would have a 35mm lens compared to a 7.6 wide angle for 2/3"?

2) Are there any known differences between Fuji and Canon lenses concerning quality and service?
