Ag-hpx500

I think 4.2mm on the HVX with 1/3" CCDs equals about 30mm. Then the 2/3" CCD with 7.6 equals (7.6/2=3.8) about 27mm. I say the HVX has a wide angle of 30mm since it feels closer to 28mm, but it is stated as having a 32.5mm wide.

Hi Jan,
We just bought 4 HVX's for our school. Now we're preparing to make our second purchase, Is there any educational discounts on the HPX? I know you can't answer for other companies, but all the rest of the infrastructure we're setting up should work (Card readers, Laptop w HD Rack) with this camera setup? Also it would be a handy thing to get a hold of the two lenses one with and one without the CA, that would be a nice teaching tool could you send the lense info on both of those?
Thanks,
Gopher

Canon vs. Fujinon is the great debate in lenses and you'll find ardent adherers to both camps. Best to just go to a pro video dealer and spend some time with 'em and see which you prefer.

As for angle of view, the 7.6 wide on a 2/3" camera is about the same width as an HVX's 4.2mm, so about equiv. to a 35mm still camera using a 32mm lens.

I just keep thinking of new question, will the iTechnology Cooke lenses be supported? Will they be CAC, or will they even need to be. Canon vs Fujion is ok for ENG, but for cinema work I think I would rather teach them with prime lens.

I am curious about the color as well. I think I have some idea, but someone like Barry or Jan would have to answer the question to be sure. So I will leave it up to them.

One other thing, is this only 8bit color?
The initial read off the CCDs is done at 14-bit, the internal processing is done at 19-bit. The DVCPRO-HD recording format is 8-bit (just like HDCAM, XDCAM-HD, and HDV).

All common HD recording formats are only 8-bit; even the $100,000 Sony F900 CineAlta is recording to 8-bit HDCAM. You'd have to step up to AVC-Intra or HD-D5 or HDCAM-SR before you get better than 8-bit recording.
