AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

ASUS has finally arrived usb stick, B1 of course. oh my god!
the camera can not see the stick, it does not appear on the wifi icon on LCD (blue light off on the stick)
USB MODE ON
USB MODE SELECT HOST
firmware 1.40
Panasonic did not warn that the only good A1
please help me
the stick working normally on my computer
what now?

Now that my You Tube video seems to have solved the problem of connecting to the camera, this may be the first example of the revision number of the ASUS stick possibly making a difference. There is not really much difference in the USB part of the connection so I'd like to think that a firmware change could resolve the problem. It's anyone's guess what Panasonic's commitment is to resolving an issue with something like this. I've seen other companies not related to the video industry come out and say Version x.x required. Hopefully that won't be the case in this instance but I guess we'll have to wait and see. In their defense it's pretty hard for them to know what changes will be made to future releases of something like the ASUS device but with that being said I really question the abilities of the group that wrote the software that makes the AG ROP feature work. This issue with the 10 character password is almost unheard of. I think in the future Panasonic needs to realize that there is a difference between being first and being first with something that actually works.

Final Report

A few days ago I filed my RMA with B&H to return the DVX200 by the Feb 1st deadline for holiday sales. That means I've been trying to find my way with the unit since I purchased it Nov 3rd—three months ago. During that time I have used it regularly in a professional setting for events, sports, and commercial production.

I have one simple reason for the return... the crippled manual focus firmware which I reported on Nov 10. Since then we have enjoyed three firmware updates, none of which address the issue (there is no FINE focus ring drive control, even though there is such a setting.).

This is a fairly costly large sensor camera that I find can be difficult to focus manually in extreme run n gun shooting. I understand that there is great flexibility in configuring the AF system of the camera, but no AF system going to be able to make all the selective focus choices for the human operator.

Barry was quick to recognize, verify, and report the issue (thank you!). And Panasonic engineers have also been very sympathetic and report that work is being done by the factory.

Frankly, I think the issue is serious and should have been corrected by now. I waited as long as the B&H return window allows, but I can't take the risk that a satisfactory resolution is not in the offing. And here's the reason for my lack of confidence in the factory. My understanding is that other than the reports made by Barry and me, no other complaints have reached the factory... and I haven't seen any support or validation for my reports from others participation in this discussion. The implication is that the complaint lacks credibility for the factory because there is not a sufficient number of customers voicing it, and a fix is therefore not a priority.

So, I guess my parting questions on the issue would be to ask straight out:

Are Barry and I the only ones who feel that the manual focus control is not working as it should be?

Am I the only one for whom this is a deal-breaker?

Am I the only one for whom this is a deal-breaker?

I can only speak for myself but at this point in time I don't see this as an issue for me. I would say that 85% of my work is locked down shots. All of the experimenting and training that I've been doing with the camera, the manual focus has looked fine to me during playback.

I'm not discounting what you are saying but it may be that my standards are a little lower than yours. So far, the ability to maintain a very sharp focus in the scenarios that I've been using the camera in has not been an issue.

I've had that guide downloaded for a few weeks and honestly never looked at it. Barry's guide is definitely more complete but I guess there is really no way to cover everything, especially a feature that was not out at the time of his writing.

Ok, I just deleted the app and reset all of my settings in the camera and tried their procedure.

It didn't work after 5 times of entering the wifi password. The iPad would not connect to the camera. I cycled the power on the iPad and when I re-entered the password it worked. Why, why, why would they want you to use a password of 012345678901234567890abcdef That's just insane!

Also, they allow you to setup your own usernames and passwords and when you do that, based on my testing only 10 characters or possibly greater seems to be the only thing that works. To me that's a software bug if they don't spell that out somewhere.

Earlier in one of my posts I mentioned that the thumbnails do not work. After clicking on one of the help screens in the app it reads "Sub recording (8Mbps only) of dual codec recording on the camera recorder's media can be displayed as thumbnail and its video played back." (that's also listed in small print in the updated handbook)

So I guess that explains it. In some cases that's an option but if you are doing a long production and using relaying, you won't be able to use thumbnails. Might not be a deal breaker for some people but a caveat at best.

Dear Madam/Sir,

We duly received your enquiry.

Unfortunately the AG-DVX200 is compatible with the ASUS USB-N53 A1 version only.
It will not work with its B1 version, we are afraid.

Best regards,

Not to change the topic, but I was wondering if anyone has any info on what numerical values Master detail, Detail coring, V detail level, Knee Ape level works for them to reduce the noise in the camera. And if there are some other adjustments that may help as well. I just got this camera and installed firmware 1.4 on it but still see a lot of noise. I downloaded Barry Greens guide for the camera and went through most of it, I would like to say thanks Barry it is very informative. I don't know how you had the time to do all of it. I read earlier in this thread where Barry has the GH4 scene files available to download to improve the look of the camera. This weekend I will go through that process to improve the look of the camera, but any info on improving the noise reduction would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank all of you who have contributed to this thread. It shows me that this can be a great camera once it is "tweeked"

Has anyone had to calibrate their lcd monitor? Mine is grossly different than my viewfinder, external monitor, and the finished product. I started the process, but couldn't find single color settings such as "blue only." Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for replying, mapper.

HELP!!! I know I just posted above that I needed help with the noise issue, but I also need some help with the scene files if anyone can help me. I'm just getting so frustrated. I just tried to install the GH4 scene files that Barry had put up for everyone. I followed Mapper65 instructions back on page 239, but I must be doing something wrong. I got as far as having both SCNFILE's showing up in the camera menu. When I go to SCENE FILE, LOAD, it shows that SCNFILE1 and SCNFILE2 are available to select , but when I try to select SCNFILE2 it says LOAD FAILED. I can select SCNFILE1 and choose SCN1-SCN6 or ALL, but that is the original camera file that I want to replace. When I clicked on the GH4 dwnld, it opened up as a long listed txt file. I just grabbed all the texted, copied it, then pasted it into wordpad. I then went to SAVE AS and saved it as SCENE2.TXT. I know I then put it in the right folder because it shows up as a choice to load, but thats when I get the loading error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi jpvid, take this file and unzip it and copy the 2 files in the proper place on your SD card. I zipped these with a Mac so you may see some additional files, just drag the scene1.txt and scene2.txt to your card. Give that a shot and see what happens. You can't really mess with the text file in a text editor. Sometimes they will work and sometimes they will not.View attachment Archive.zip

I'm an idiot, just figured it out, all I had to do on the dwnld page was to right click there and save as SCENE2.TXT. All is well now. it worked Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I appreciate it. Another ? In Barry's guide he talked about minimizing the noise in the DVX200 by changing the Detail and other settings. But he did not give any specific numbers to set each of these items at. Do you have any thoughts on reducing the noise in the camera by changing the values of Master detail, Detail coring, V detail level, Knee Ape level and possibly some other camera values? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would give Barry's scene file 2 scenes a try before you get into changing any of those settings. You may find out that things are much better. To be honest, I haven't adjusted any of those settings after using his scene files.

Do you have a preference or favorite scene that you use the most often, Natural, Standard...? I also own the GH4 and shoot in Standard and Natural most of the time.

I've been using Barry's scene2.txt file SCN5 the most but I shot something with SCN3 the other day that didn't look too bad. You really have to get out there with the camera and put it through it paces. The DVX200 ends up being a different animal under different lighting situations. A SCN that works well under 3200k lights may not work as well under daylight.

I typically white balance and setup my shot then run through the SCNs until I find something that I like. That may not be the best way to do it but it's worked well for me so far. I'm typically shooting with one camera so matching another camera isn't too much of an issue. Being that you have a GH4 you'll want to review Barry's notes on the scenes in scene2.txt

SCN5 is the same as Cine-V on the GH4 and SCN3 is the same as Portrait on the GH4. So thats good to know. It would have been nice if they labeled the DVX200's similarly if not the same as the GH4. Its easier to remember a "look" like Standard etc... than a SCN#
