AG-DVX200 4K Large-Sensor Handheld Camcorder

My focus ring is quite easy to move and rotates fine in either direction. My zoom ring has a little more resistance on it and also moves smoothly. I don't feel any grit or places where the resistance seems to change anywhere along the way.

Thank you. Can I also please ask how much play the zoom ring has if you push and pull on it toward and away from from the barrel? Mine moves about 1/8".

It is interesting the difference between the mechanical tolerances of our two cameras as we are reporting.

Same as Mapper65, the zoom ring takes a little more force to move than the focus ring, but not by much. There is a sense that you're moving mechanical parts inside that gives it a little more "grit" compared to the damped slickness of the focus ring, but it doesn't catch or hesitate and isn't rough in any way.

I can easily move it with one finger, probably even if it were a bit damp.

Edited to add: no fore-and-aft play in the ring that I would ever notice.

Thank you Greg. I'm not looking at fore and aft but up and down, so moving pushing the ring up into the barrel from under, and then pushing it down into the barrel from the top.

I can feel a little movement, but it's more on the order of 1/100" rather than 1/8". I can just barely see it when I look at the joint between the ring and lens barrel.

While many of you guys understanderbly are concerned about the scenefiles, I am a bit more concerned about how the DWC200 is managing noise in the dark areas and the yellow in highlights and purple in midtones after the firmware update shooting in V-Log. Did the firmware update make a difference or is the raw output the same as before? Have Panasonic reached the limits for what is possible to do with this camera firmware-wise, or are there still ways to deal with these kind of issues. In other words, have we reached the hardwarelimits for the camera in the latest firmware update?

Here´s another clip with lots of (graded) skin tones...
Produced with the DVX200.

Can you tell more about settings? Is everything shot with the DVX200?

I can't understand the words, but IMO this is one of those perfect examples of how the sound can be more important than the picture. That's one of the worst things about using a music clip as an example of video. If the sound is good enough (and I think this is ), people just assume the picture is meant to look like that, even if that picture wasn't the original intention.

I can't understand the words...

My German is a little rusty so in general, this is what he isaid:

"I have been trying to decide if I would like to buy the DVX200. I have been able to test the unit and can briefly tell you what I have noticed.

The picture has less noise than the GH4 and appears cleaner for me. I’ve heard that it should be the same sensor as in the GX8. The camera has a very extensive set of features with various scene files and V-log.

2160p 50 is great, however, since I changed the shortest focal length to 38mm, I am not as enthusiastic.
With 2160p 25 it is 30.5mm. Besides that, the 2160p 50 signal on the HDMI output is 8 Bit 4.2.0 and not 10 Bit 4.2.2.
With 2160p 25 the output is as indicated at 10 Bit 4.2.2.

The fan is also not very quiet and the noise can be heard in the directional microphone, mounted right next to it. In my mind it is too loud.

On the HDMI output, an image shift can be seen. I can accept that, yes, but why can the same offset be seen on the screen, I do not understand.

That is my take on the camera."

My german is not too good either, but later on in same thread he writes that he finally bought the camera (partly Google translated)

"Have eventually bought the camera, because the important arguments for me to purchase have yet predominated.
ND filter, XLR connector, SDI output, no interchangeable lenses, 2xSDHC card slot, saving directly to external hard drive, VLog, IR recording and much more.

The offset in the display is not as annoying as initially thought.
Fan noise is not heard while shooting, because it then turns off, which I really like.
This problem is well off.

The lack of wide-angle I solved by recording with the GH4 and 7-14mm.

Both cameras colors goes very well together.
But I think that the image of the DVX200 compared to the GH4 is more beautiful and sharper and less noisy.
..... and more visible.
It looks clean.

I like the scene settings very much.
I can now adjust the camera the way I want it to be.

Meanwhile, I can say that the DVX200 is a reliable camera with good image result for me.

I'm really very happy.

Would be interesting to see the same test with the latest firmware. Still looks like the DVX200 is a little better.

I prefer the softer looking skin of the GH4. Must be allot of luck involved in designing a camera. By my eyes they nailed it with the GH4 just need to dial back the yellow a bit. I shoot mostly motorcycles and cars though so soft skin is not a deal breaker. The 6 lbs weight though. I don't want to go back to that really. Might just wait for something from Sony. The 1 inch sensor should be easier to focus also

Yes me too, but you will be able to achieve the same or maybe even better with the DVX200 I guess. Just need better scenefiles (adjusted to the new firmware) or shot in V-Log...

If you want to have softer skin you can dial that in with things like detail coring.
