AG-DVX100A Rebate Kicked up a Notch

Thanks Rush, there is not one authorized Panny dealer in MO. That figures. J&R is not authorized? Hmmm.... They advertise the rebate on their website. Thanks for the info Barry. Guess I have a couple more weeks to decide. I will check out that Thread!

J&R is not authorized. They may be selling gray-market product that would not qualify for the rebate. However, they may be selling genuine new units (that they bought from an authorized reseller), so the possibility exists that their products may indeed qualify for the rebate. It's a risk you have to evaluate as to whether it's worth taking. Frankly, for the $500 value of the rebate (plus the $700 worth of other stuff included in the authorized units' box and by mail) I can't see how it would be worth it to jeopardize that...

Great, I think I understand all of this now. I better just stay with an authorized dealer then, even it it is a bit higher. Thanks for your help!

Well, I took the bait.

Well, I took the bait.

Even though a new model is coming out, I couldn't resist the $500 cash back and extra battery. Notice quite a few dealers are out of stock. Got one from B&H, along with a Sennheiser ME66.

It just arrived today. I feel very good about the purchase because even though the model is about to be replaced, it's been well tested, issues are known, and there's a big community out there for it. I've used this camera professionally on shoots for shows that aired on various cable TV networks and I've always admired the 24p look.

Without the rebate and accessories, I wouldn't have been able to afford it.

I've already rented out this equipment (along with me to operate it) to a company making a show for a cable network. Hopefully it will pay for itself.

Now I'm just getting hundred dollared to death with all the accessories and things that I need to really complete the package. Arghh.

Hi MisterBig, congratulations on your purchase from a fine dealer. B&H really sets a model of efficiency for all the rest of us. The DVX is always the right choice, 100, 100A, 100B, can't go wrong. The littlest camera with the big image  I have had more fun using mine than any other camera, and I have a feeling more jobs will keep coming when people see your footage. Best of luck.

I just ordered mine from Rush at EVS! Thanks for all your help - looking forward to finally working with this camera! Thanks for all the info on this site - you guys saved me from pursuing some bad decisions by pointing me at EVS.

my rebate journal ...

DVX100A ordered 10/06/05
DVX100A received 10/10/05
Rebate requested online 10/10/05

Im not waiting for the tapes and battery, i ordered some tapes with EVS and the 5600mah battery with Jarred, all went extremly smooth

I think the rebate site is possibly a little confusing when it says the check has been cut. There is still the rest of the process that has to be done. There has to be money put into the account. So the cutting of the check is easy, if they sent it, it would likely bounce. So what really happens is that they cut the check, they then put together the documentation which sometimes takes them about 2 weeks, they send it to my office, we authorize it, and that is the fastest part of the chain, it leaves our offices in 24 hours. Then it goes into our accounting department and then it goes onto have the money transferred into the account held by the rebate folks. In all it happens from the time of application to the time of check received aobut 6-8 weeks.

Hope that helps.

Best,

Jan

Jan, based on your previous statements I'm wondering about the phase out window for DVX100A/B as HVX is on its way up.. ?

I think you can relatively easily relaunch DVX100 and make its sales strong in the long term by adding or licensing something like the HD 4:4:4 uncompressed 12bit RGB output via Andromeda mod from [www.reel-stream.com] Yes, it puts additional stress on external storage technology but 2006 and on will be a different world with blueray disc, cheaper sata hdds, gigaethernets etc..

It would make it more affordable for the consumers in the end since you can implement it directly in pana factories. On the other hand it might cannibalize sales of HVX which apparently doesn't have such features..

Has anyone seen November yet? It looks amazing! That's the kinda look I wanted to see pulled out of this camera. Any details on how I can see the film?

Go to the Sony Pictures Classics website and see if it's still playing anywhere; otherwise you'd have to wait for the DVD release. It rolled out slowly across the country, so I guess it's possible it may still be in some theaters somewhere...

Would love to know why Canadians can't get the benefit of these rebates!
Panasonic Canada is a different division than Panasonic US. The rebates are offered as a marketing promotion by Panasonic US. If you want 'em in Canada, you'd have to contact Panasonic Canada and ask them to implement a similar program.

Okay got something today by panasonic, and all i got was a 10 hour battery and 10 blamk tapes. Is that it, I thought there would be more
