AC90: AG-AC90 - SD DVD's in Vegas Pro 10/DVDA5

Not sure if this is the best place to post, but I am getting desperate. I recently picked up a AG-AC90 for event work. I am editing in Vegas Pro 10 and when I render mpg2 for SD DVD's they look terrible. I am shooting PH 1080 30P (which I think is really 60i) and using the default MainConcept MPG2 DVDA template in Vegas. I've also tried adjusting bit rates in the encoder, etc., to up the quality but no luck. I've used Vegas & DVDA for years starting with my DVX100 and more recently Canon DSLR's with great results. Any tips for creating SD DVD's from AVCHD files?

Don't feel bad. I have Vegas 12 and the downconvert looks bad to my eye with aliasing etc.

Lou - I appreciate the commiseration, thank you. But I'd be even more appreciative of a solution. Did you figure out anything that works? Right now I am rendering to an intermediary 720p .mxf file which I will then (attempt) to use as the source file to create my SD DVD mpeg2. I did a short test earlier and the final output looked much better. It is an extra step but (I think) it will eliminate the need to do a 2 pass VBR on the mpeg2 so I will save some time.

I also tested a Windows .avi intermediary using the Sony YUV codec. That looked AWESOME. But.... a two minute clip was 13.6GB for a 1080p and 6GB for 720p. (My project is 86 mins so do the math...) In contrast the 720p .mxf file is about 300MB for two minutes. So I am going with that. (I will say however, even the Sony YUV 1080p .avi file rendered quite quickly relative to the other codecs I've tried. Just wish I had the disc space for that!)

Hi Guys

Never had any issues with Vegas 10 and Panny AVCHD files ... Make sure your Project Properties are correct first. The correct preset must be used. Use the file icon to get a match.

while i don't use vegas,i've never liked making dvd's with premiere pro.
instead i encode a 1080p mp4 and then use TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress (i think there is now a later version)
MPEG-2 Video, NTSC, 720x480, Progressive, 29.97 fps 8250 kb/s
then use any program to author a dvd

for what i film, each dvd has 3 different videos on it.each video is done each week and after 3 weeks i make the dvd.
so for me doing it this way is no real hassle or put me under any deadline pressure.
