AC160 ag-ac160 restarting problem

I don't understand the question. Perhaps you have a different counter display? If you set the timecode display to "counter", and you have the counter configured to "clip", then it will restart at zero every time you start a new recording. Is that what you're encountering?

My problem Is Not Counter Restart
The Problem Is Total Camera Restarting

Have you been shooting in a very humid or wet environment? I had problems with my HMC150 power switch after using the camera on a sailing race shoot. I had to have the switch replaced.

Hi. I have the same problem. After some testing, and eliminating possible causes, I have reached the conclusion that this may be caused by the main REC button. In the last two months or so i have been experiencing about 20-25 camera restarts/event during recording... really frustrating, but at least the camera finalized and saved every clip before shutting off. The last event I have shot, i've been only using the REC button on the handle, and the camera did not restart even once, so it may be that. I will send my camera for service next month.

That's the same problem I had with my HMC 150, using the handle mounted REC button worked for me as well. I had the power switch replaced and it's been fine since.

Thanks John. At least now I know what to say to the Panasonic Service... until now I was not so sure about the cause, and I was afraid that if I send it to them, they would not experience the problem.. because if you power on the camera and just hit record... it works with no problem. The problem occurs when you keep your thumb on the REC button and/or start/stop recording (but not allways) :)

Hi Marius

Again, this was my HMC150, but the problem was very similar. I was shooting sailboat racing in the Caribbean, the camera was in a pretty good rain cover, but I think the humidity is what caused the problem. I used a quick spray of aerosol contact cleaner which helped for a while, but the problem came back. Having the switch replaced solved the problem. The hard part was remembering to use the top REC button rather than the thumb button, old habits die hard!

Cheers

John
