AC160 AG-AC160 footage

Has anyone posting here actually gotten their hands on a model yet, you know, behind the scenes? I was wondering if Panny has solved the noisy zoom motor issue. Will the built-in mic pick it up if I zoom in or out at full speed?

Jim-
As you probably know any AG AC160 testers must first sign nondisclosure agreements before they're given the camera for testing/evaluation. So even if Barry Green has already worked extensively with the camera, he couldn't and wouldn't start talking about various features until permitted by Panasonic. If he answered your question he'd probably be off the list of potential testers for future Panasonic products.
That being said, Panasonic has proven in the past to be very responsive to end-user complaints and suggestions. And you are not the only one to have complained about the noisy zooms on other Panasonic cameras. One thing I noticed in the YouTube video above was how beefy the 160 was in that guy's hands. Take a look at the servo grip and notice how how thick it is. I bet there's a lot of servo damping inside that grip. Of course that remains to be seen, but until Panasonic gives the okay I don't think you're going to get an answer to your question.

The camera does look physically a lot bigger than the HMC150. Very much looking forward to a review of this camera, even though sadly I probably wont be replacing my HMCs with them!

I'm not sure that's really a barrier here. There's been a lot of media coverage of these new models. It's just that no one has said anything specific about this one issue. Plenty has been said about many other things, just not this.

I'd like someone who knows to be specific about this.

It is stock. I asked the rep who had it if I could hit RESET and go with it. I think it's HD NORM. With no color correction. I can't remember if white balance is from a card or just 5200 outside. Thanks for watching!

One thing I noticed from your quick review, is that lens flare looks like it is very well controlled. You have one shot through the trees with the sun peeking through, and the lens flare looks quite minimal.

Can't wait to see an in depth review on this new batch of cameras from Panasonic. ( AC130 / AC160 / HPX250 )
