AC130: AG-AC 130 randomly powers off

Hello. I have a Panasonic AG-AC130, with which I shoot events. During the last two events I had to film, the camera began to shut off at random moments, and then powered back on by it self. At first I tought it might be some sort of safety mechanism, because of overheating from shooting outdoors, but it happend to me during shooting in an air-conditioned restaurant as well. I also excluded the baterry as an issue, because this has happened with both my batteries (one original, one after market). Do you have any idea why is it doing that?

Thanks, and please excuse my english

I can't think of any reason that it would do that, I would have it checked out by your authorized Panasonic Service Center.

Best,

Jan

I would certainly have blamed the aftermarket battery. We've had reports here of "loose" batteries before, and that's the type of behavior that a loose battery would cause. Are you absolutely certain it happened with the camera-original battery too?

What sort of climate do you live in? If you are taking your camcorder in and out between real hot summer temperatures and air conditioned buildings, then the threat of condensation is a real concern that you should be aware of. Have you checked the contacts on your batteries, as well as the battery contacts on your AC130? If the contacts have suffered damage from oxidation, you can clean them with products from companies like CAIG LABORATORIES: http://www.caig.com/

Internal components inside your camcorder can also suffer damage from oxidation. So do try to protect your AC130 from condensation. The threat is greatest during the summer.

Thanks Lance. Maybe you are right. I would send it for checking, but I have a lot of contracts these days. I did a test at home. I left the camera on, until the 2 batteries ran out, and it didn't power off. So I am more confuse :)).

Well, condensation occurs when warm humid air is dramatically cooled to the point where the air can no longer hold the water in it. And that can easily happen if you were out in a hot and humid climate, and then entered an air conditioned place just as you described. So that is why I mentioned this subject to you. Perhaps this was a temporary problem that you suffered, and the camcorder is now dried out and not having any problems presently.

If I were you, I would still inspect the battery connections on your AC130 and your batteries, and make sure that they are clean and bright. You don't have to send it in for service to just do that.

In warm humid climates many photographers keep their equipment inside air tight plastic bags, with some packages of desiccant added inside the bag, which will then absorb any humidity inside the bag.

Repeated incidents of condensation can eventually lead to rust and damage to electronic circuits. Since you have not owned your AC130 that long, hopefully nothing like that has yet happened.

Are you currently experiencing real hot weather? Do you live near the ocean, or other large bodies of water? If your answer is yes to these questions, then you should take steps to safeguard your camcorder.

Thanks again for your reply Lance. I live in Romania, where we have a temperate climate. I do not live near large bodies of water. However, in the last two weeks we have been experiencing real hot weather, and the camera began shutting off while shooting outdoor in this weather. (also I could feel the camera body being hot). I have tested it again, draining one battery, and it did not stop. So maybe it was something temporary.

I just started having this problem as well, all batts are panasonic, but it happens with ac supply as well, sometimes it will just pop off for a second, but other times stay off.
