I had posted ina few other threads, how I needed a bigger desk.
My old desk, rescued from the curb.
I looked around and couldn't find anything that suited me that was in my price range, and not made out of sawdust and glue. So I took matters into my own hands, and took my Visa up to Lowes... when the wife wasn't looking. I ended up spending about $200 on lumber, paint, and various hardware. Maybe another $50 on new saw blades, bits, and a new jigsaw and sander. Of course, during construction, it sort of took on a life of it's own. After a month or two of distractions and delays, I present-
The new desk
This beast ended up at 4' deep and 8' wide. I still need to add hinged access doors to the back of the cabinets, but I was anxious to move in.
The computer cabinet holds two PCs, DVD player, VCR, Cable box, 20 monitor, and most of my software, putting everything within reach.
The printer cabinet holds my printer/scanner, has 4 drawers for various paper and card stock, as well as another drawer for blank disk media. All drawers are made with Western Red Cedar and either Beech or Birch fronts, I'm not sure which anymore. I had a few planks just laying around and put them to use.
17" flat screen on the desk, 32" flat screen on the wall. The keyboard drawer is curved to accomodate my expanding waistline, and is adjustable for more headroom... for when I need to run cables.
And as you can see, there are lots of cables, but at least they are a bit more manageable now. They'll be hidden when I finish the access doors. All in all, I'm happy with the way it turned out. Not as nice as I had hoped, but considering I have no carpentry skills, it came out way better than I expected. I'm just glad my office is big enough to fit it and my bar.
