Affordable Wireless HD transmission from Brite-View AirSyncHD

I got the chance to test out the Brite-View AirsyncHD wireless transmitter and receiver kit with a prototype camera mounting accessory. Here it is:

Dan, that is awesome! I saw a review of the AirSync doing TV to TV and PC to TV, and I thought to myself, "Self, I wonder if that could work for monitoring...?"

Thanks for answering that question for me!

My next question, how did you power that contraption? I see the battery pack in the video, and you mentioned something about a prototype power supply...? So they are planning on releasing the battery interface? Or was that something you rigged up yourself? If so, where do I get one? :-)

Thanks!

Wow. I'd be totally interested in this for monitoring... a dream come true for directors, I'd think! But what cameras is this available for?

Hi, thanks for asking guys.

Here is a list of cameras I have tested it with personally:

Canon 7D
Canon 5D
Red MX

There is no real reason this should not work with any camera that outputs a:
1080p
1080i
720p
signal...

There are two modes on the transmitter wide:on and wide:off which I believe enable different resolutions for transmission.

As far as what is currently called the Brite-View PowerStation, it is a special cable that allows for the use of Anon-Bauer P-Tap, and Canon LP-E6 batteries, with the possibility of other "modules"

This can be available soon...

How much demand is there for the Powerstation Kit with camera rod mount?

LOTS of demand - how can I buy one now?

I don't care so much about the rod mount, but clearly a battery pack is going to be highly desirable (if not required) for using this thing in the field...

asus doing the same cheaper and smaller
google for "asus wi cast"

Yeah, I meant to mention that. But what's most interesting about the AirsyncHD is that they're making the battery pack for using it in the field. If ASUS does a camera battery pack, then it might be the better choice, but without the battery pack, it's useless. Unless someone knows of a "generic" camera battery to electronics connector...?

The asus one doesn't compare:

no hdmi passthrough.
max 30' transmission.

for what, $20 less?

add a decent hdmi splitter and cables (for around $20) and you have a sloppy mess that only transmits 30'.

I've used both.
@nosys70 - have you even used the Asus one to comment?

The Brite-View is very lightweight., estimating the same weight as the asus despite the larger plastic housing.

Does anyone know if you could you use something like the tekkeon battery packs to power it?

Ooo! That certainly looks like it would work, assuming you could figure out which plug adapter to use. It looks like the Tekkeons come with several adapters, so hopefully it would come with the correct size. If not, their store doesn't look very for helpful in finding the right one.

Now the question is: for how long would the a Tekkeon power this thing?

The Brite-View Wireless HD system for camera will be on display in Los Angeles this weekend (december 4th and 5th) in Los Angeles!

Check it out!

Dan... thanks so much for posting this. I friend pointed this out to me a while back for use on my steadicam. Looks terrific. How big is the transmitter? How heavy?

I too love the Tekkeon.. Simply one of the best things I've ever bought and it does come with like 8 different adapters and can power from 7 to 20 volts.. It's awesome and this unit looks awesome too.

cheers to all on this holiday season.

Cheers buddy!

It measures:
180mmx145mmx34mm

It weighs:
Less than 6 ounces by my estimation...

Really nice unit for the money, even works with a 5D2 despite the fact that 5D2 changes resolution when you hit record...it just has an EDID pause when it switches modes.

Just wanted to follow up on this and see if anyone else had tried it and had success stories, questions, or commentary about how well it works for what you do?

What's the best way to get power to these Dan? Id love one for the price, just trying to figure out an elegant power solution to make it less ghetto.

Well - currently I am hand making LPe6 battery plates with voltage step down built in, as well as P tap step down cables. I'm charging $200 each since I have to source the parts and then hand make each one.

Here is my friend's rig that he used to shoot a DSLR feature with last month:

I had been developing a power pack for mass distribution - and after a meeting at CES it seems like they may be available before Valentine's Day if you want to wait for a "factory solution"

If you don't have an investment in LP-e6 batteries or something with a P-Tap - then there are 5 volt batteries on Ebay like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Portable-12V-9V...ultDomain_0&hash=item27b5f8d3ce#ht_3268wt_907

for around $50/each. Just make sure you have the correct polarity, and that you have several batteries for in the field so that when your battery goes down you aren't stuck with a dead transmitter.
