Affordable Fast Primes

Hi
we just have started to invest into fast affordable primes (less than $1000)

so far we purchased
20mm f1.7 (panasonic)
35mm f.1.4
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.4

is there anything else we overlooked?

Don't know if you'd consider them affordable (they are under $1,000 each) but the Nokton 50mm/f0.95 and the Voightlander 25mm/f0.95 are the fastest m43 primes out there that I know of.

yes i would
i am looking into them
thanks Barry

I may be wrong but heard Voightlander 25mm/f0.95 will be around $1300. (Isn't this lens made by Noktor as well?)

I'm definitely getting the Noktor 50mm f0.95. I think it would be amazing to be able to shoot so fast (though Bloom said it was a bit soft until you stopped it down to ~f1.4)

Hmm... I thought I had heard the 25mm was under $1,000 but according to authorized dealer cameraquest, the price hasn't been set yet.

The Voigtlander Nokton lenses have nothing to do with Solomon Chase's Noktor company. I think the Voigtlanders are made by Cosina, who (according to the link above) has joined the m43 coalition.

Perhaps I'm wrong in fact I hope I am.

I think I heard NoktoR is making a 25mm f0.95 (which I heard was $1300) as well so that was my confusion thinking it was the same as your Voightlander 25mm/f0.95.

If the Voightlander 25mm/f0.95 is < $1000 that may be an amazing deal and that with the Noktor 50mm f0.95 would be quite a duo!

What 4/3 really needs is a lens somewhere around 15 f/1.8 (faster would be great, but I have reasonable expectations) The lack of a fast and wide prime is the biggest gap in the 4/3" lens lineup in my opinion.

i really want the oly 14-35 and 35-100 but alas it costs 4000 to have both T_T

oly's 11-22 seems a good wide angle lens though.

They have a 14mm f/2.5 already. That's wider than you asked for, and maybe 2/3 stop slower.

Wish that was a 12-35 Oly, but it's a 14-35.

EDIT: Figured this is a good place to ask this since people here really know their lenses and we are talking about fast primes - even though few of you here may have interest in this lens. Have an opportunity to buy a Tokina AT-X 300 SD - it's the old manual focus version of this 300mm 2.8 prime. Weighs a ton, but I've seen the lens and shot some footage with it. It's in mint condition with all the original filters. The owner was originally asking $1,000 for it but has since come down to $300. I'm tempted. What do you think?

I did the math and a 1.8 iris is 193% larger then a 2.5, so its over 9/10ths of a stop less, or just about a full stop.

2.5 is workable, of course, but I wouldn't call it fast for a prime since there are faster zooms available on m 4/3.

The equation is 3.14{[(Focal Length/ f stop)/2]^2} =Total Iris area (or light amount assuming no extra light loss)

I think we got almost everything we could afford.
When the Voigtlander becomes available we'll be all set

thanks for the link
will bookmark it.

What would be good options for prime lenses in terms of sharpness, contrast, bokeh, flare with F stop > 2 for all the ranges from wide to telephoto, valued around 1000USD or less. Say a set of four to six lenses.
The list would really guide in buying good lenses for AF100.

Question is how do u get anything tht is not static to focus at tht f stop ? I have enough problems with f1.4 + actor. lol

How about the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM Four Thirds Lens, seems to have a reasonable set of reviews on Amazon, and is about $440. Fully automatic with no external aperture control, however, if that is important.

I contacted voigtländer about the lens which was announced mid october, in september and they replied but til today no further news...I see it on greedpain now and am surprised....
