Affordable 4k Monitoring

Can I just hook the GH4 directly to either one of these monitors via HDMI? Will it be 30Hz or 60Hz? I heard for video you want 60Hz?

I found that thread a little long and confusing. I just want to know if you get 30Hz or 60Hz when you go HDMI from the GH4 to the 4k monitor? I heard 30Hz for monitoring video is not great, but I have not seen it with my own eyes.

well, currently HDMI does 30hz in 4k. I think HDMI 2.0 bumps up to 60hz, but little or nothing has been released with that.

I have a Samsung, just tested all the modes and here is what my basic $600 4K monitor does:

HDMI: C4k or UHD = 30hz, 29.98, 24hz, (and 23.98 as 24hz)
1920x1080 HD = 60hz, 30, 29, 24, and 23.98 as 24hz

* I forgot to test Variable Frame Rate, but if I recall, that displays nothing while recording due to processing

DISPLAY PORT: from computer: 60hz, for computer, video editing, gaming

Couldn't find the link again... but HP came out with some 4k monitors something like 500 & 800 bucks and there was another one for like 1,200 can't remember the company

I use mine in 60hz editing/computer mode. I do hook the GH4 directly to it via hdmi to see it's output at 24 30 and 60, but it always looks fine. I wouldn't recommend getting less that 60 unless using as a dedicated separate preview monitor. Even then, seems like a waste of money/value limiting to 30hz.

If you can wait a month or four, prices will keep dropping for even better screens.

Another thing, I just learned my 10-bit, billion color screen is NEUTERED via the Nvida Graphics card that won't put out 10-bit. Certain pro version nvidia cards do ($$$), and I read maybe more AMD/ATI (whatever their name is this week) DO put out 10 bit. THEN I'm limited by my NLE, Vegas which seems to work in 8-bit video preview space anyway.

That ASUS you listed, ASUS PB287Q 28-Inch Screen LED-Lit 4K Monitor, is almsot exactly like mine

but cheaper. Yes it should work fine.

Will the dell or Asus connect to my iMac 27 inch, mid 2011 computer (2.7 GHz Intel core i5)? I would use it as a second display to view my footage in 4k 60hz using Adobe premiere and gh4 4k footage.

Thanks for for all of the great info!

I saw a 55 inch 4k TV at Target today for 499! Crazy. Researching on line I guess it's a rebranded Seiki.
