AF100 vs HVX200A

I'm looking to buy a new B Cam and I'm torn between the AF100 and HVX200A, does anyone have any info on the two?

I know the AF100 has interchangeable lens capability and I would have to buy a 35mm adapter for the 200A. Also, I know SD cards are much cheaper than P2 at the moment. Finally I know the AVCHD Codec is not great on the AF100 and I would be getting a Solid State recorder.

Blake, whats the intended purpose of the camera. You say B cam - but in what setting?

The differences are so vast its incomparable. The Panasonic Logo on the side and the Panasonic "look" might be all there is to compare. If an HVX200 is in consideration for you, its probably the way to go. The AF100 is an unforgiving camera, which is not a knock against it at all, but if your not ready, will be dreadful to work with. Most 35mm adapters are poop fest to work with too, might be smarter to spend the money on Magic Bullet Looks and do general simulation of shallow DOF, that with its general looks will take your footage to another playing field.

Hi, my A is a JVC 790 and I will be using it for most everything. Currently I work in a studio in Boston where we use Red and the JVC is my personal camera. Documentary/Action/Commercial Work would be the broad spectrum.

Also, I have Magic Bullet Looks and I much prefer the camera control over it.

I have the original HVX200 with the Brevis. It looks awesome, but requires some setup time. AF100 is more a learning curve on the settings side. Take your pick, both give amazing results with enough practise. On a side note, I am thinking of selling my HVX/Brevis setup. Let me know if you are interested.

"B" camera suggest to me a second camera for multi camera shoots. Also indicates a requirement to intercut the footage. Is this what you are actually going to do?

At times yes, I will be doing that. However, I also want it to be a camera that I will be able to take into difficult conditions/climates and not have to worry about damaging it as I have my 790
