AF100 resale value

I'll be upgrading my camcorder selection in November. I just wanted to know if I'm reasonable with the asking price I'm thinking of. By that time the cam should have approx 800hrs on it. I'm in the event field so the camera is on running 7-9hrs a job. No functional problems with the camcorder at all. 100% functional. Cosmetic I'd give it a 7+ it's not immaculate but it shows wear and tear. All original accessories and 3 extra non-panny batteries but no box. For a quick sale do you think $2200 shipped is a good asking price? I know pictures would help but just thinking this through. Thanks AF100 community.

I'm trying to sell mine with only 107 hours on it and no-one's interested at 2k. Mind you, that's the UK.

And to prove my point, I've just been having some PM's on this very thread offering to buy it, but not wanting to pay 2k - around half it's current new value in the UK, despite including about £500 of extra batteries and rails etc.

Hey Tom thanks for the info so far on your luck. What is the market price on used AF100's on ebay u.k.? I know you may not go that route but I've had zero luck selling camcorders here on DVXUser. I usually sell on ebay and get about what I've always asked for.

Why don't you put it up on Ebay and find out what you can get for it? You only need ONE person to buy it - and I've seen crazy prices on Ebay, like people willing to pay a LOT. So you never know. The market is what it is. Trying to hash it out on a message board is not going to be productive IMHO - you'll just get a bunch of people chiming in with their own bias, and everyone has some bias... the only objective way is to have someone actually be willing to put up the cash - talk is cheap.

Again - putting it up for sale is the only way you find out market value... speculating today about market value in November is pretty much pointless. Many cams are coming out or will be announced between now and November, including (probably) the GH3, and the value of the af100 will most likely be affected by the perception of alternatives available at the time. So come November, you put it up on Ebay and find out what resale value it may have.

That is what my plan was to do. But I asked a specific question here. Is $2200 a good price for a quick sale. Barry answered it for me and when the time comes that's the price I'll sale it for. Could I have just put it on ebay without posting this thread absolutely. For me this thread was to give me a bit of security with what I was thinking figure wise.

No problem Babu, I didn't mean to sound critical... as I amended my post, what I really should have mentioned from the beginning is that what I thought was that November is too far away and the market may change due to other cams being available and/or announced. Best of luck!

At risk of being hated by people looking to buy one, I would say that your price is TOO low. I have about the same condition as you (850+ hours, 3x extra batteries, 2x chargers, Kipon Nikon mount, and original accessories + Barry Green book) and I was planning on $2500-$2600, maybe $2750 w/ the Adaptimax Nikon Mount and Lumix 14-42 if I end up selling it this fall (have not decided if I am going to upgrade this year or not...), and I was considering that to be a steal. $2200 is giving it away. The camera has only been around 1.5 years, and still retails for $4,500 ($4k w/ rebates) on BH's website.

It's funny I had a friend tell me that as well. My camera isn't pristine looking which is why I decided to go a bit lower. It's not horrible but the body has scratches on the bottom side thanks to my glidecam and tripod. I just feel it should be priced accordingly. Is your cam in very good shape cosmetically Oliver? 2 more months till I put it up on ebay or sell locally to a potential buyer. Ebay being the one with a higher price. Thanks for your input Oliver.

If I were buying a used camera, I wouldn't care about scratches where it mounts to the tripod. As long as it doesn't affect function at all, it really shouldn't matter. It's a tool used to produce a product, not a sports car :)

For a frame of reference I sold mine just before NAB for $3550. It came with 2 batteries, Ciecio7 PL mount with the foot, a cheap Olympus OM mount, and 2 inexpensive old school OM mount zoom lenses.

So I guess I could up it to $2500 then instead. hmmmm..... thanks for helping me think this through guys.

Mine def does not look like new, but not totally beat. The screws have the finish worn off, there are some small scratches on the bottom (not that many as I usually have my baseplate on the bottom...), a couple stickers I have on it will probably leave a residue, maybe some light scratches on on the body, etc, but not horrible, just used... The body does show its 800+ hours it has on it and it is my workhorse camera, but everything is 100% functional, NDs are clean, everything works perfect, etc.. I was thinking $3k, but decided on $2,500-2,750, depending on what accessories I include, mostly due to the hours... that is if I sell it, but I am not particularly motivated to, yet.
