AF100 questions

Hey!

I'm heavily considering buying an AF100, based on the beautiful images I've seen and the compact body. However I do got some questions:

Is this a camera suited for events? I currently got a XH-A1 which is very easy to use at events. No focus-troubles or anything. Will it require autofocus lenses to be able to use the zoom? If there is a zoom button at all...

Anyway, what is your experienses with this camera on events?

And will this be a strong upgrade from my XH-A1?

Thank you for your time.

There's of information on this site about exactly what you're asking. Just do a little research and find out.

Yes and no. For events such as weddings etc, I'd say no. If you were making a stylish, set shot type idea, then sure. However if you just wanted a handycam type result, albeit better quality, probably not. Certainly it can do it, but given that it's not as much a point and shoot type camera, you might be better with something else. Where the AF100 does work well (in my limited experience) is bridging the gap between the HDSLR world and the higher end cinema world (to a degree). In my experience, that means setting up shots, planning where movement is and so on. There is an HD video optimised lens (the Panasonic Lumix 14-140), but I haven't used it. I guess you could do it with the 14-140 lens, but it's be a shame to just use it for that. I'm looking to make narrative short films etc, and plan shots etc

For instance, there's no zoom button. Any zoom is done via the lens. There's not even an expanded focus button, which would have been nice. I haven't used the XH-A1, so I can;t really compare them. The 14-140 lens has auto-zoom, but it's not particularly fast (I think) I have the Lumix 14-42, which has autofocus, but it's a bit slow, and kind of "hunts" for focus. For an event, that kind of thing might not work well. You can zoom with a prime lens, but that will require pulling focus.

Anyway, what is your experienses with this camera on events?

I haven't tried yet, although I'd think it would be more difficult than not, depending on what you wanted. Certainly there are others here more experience than I, so I'd defer to their advice.
