AF100 now includes 14-140 lens

I don't care about this promotion, the 14-140 isn't even good enough to be used as a sea anchor - But HOPEFULLY this means a decent zoom lens is around the corner...

As much as anyone I want a fast, parfocal, constant aperture zoom, but in the meantime the 14-140mm serves me well. It's small, sharp, & has a 10x range, plus IS, so lives in the AF100 case.

Ironically this lens has been backordered for awhile, but now comes free with new cams. This was enough of a promotion to get one production company I work with to get off the fence, & purchase another AF100.

Ok... We've had some folks that have ordered from us recently and some that were really early adopters that aren't happy about not being able to get the lens. Since this is Panasonic's promotion and not ours, we don't have much control over this.... BUT we'll give you a FREE battery! All AF100 Spec-Comm clients get a FREE battery. You just pay the shipping ($10).

This promo isn't available on the web store so please email me or call in to order.

That's very cool. Thanks a lot. I just left you a voice mail.

We put that lens up against the Arri Alura at the NYC Weekend Workshop, on a big screen. It's just as sharp, on the AF100.

Yes the lens has its issues (it's slow and it doesn't hold focus/iris during a zoom, although it will correct after the zoom stops). But it also has a lot going for it.

The assessment of the true expert on this forum. This lens is very, very good if you really know how to use it properly. Slow but very sharp and useful. No doubt about it. Thank you Barry for your info.

There are plenty of other companies who introduce a basic model and early adopters usually pay a premium for the privilege of having it first. We purchased one of the first VW SportWagen TDIs available in the USA and there was one level of trim.

Using this Panasonic mentality, I suppose we "missed out" when they introduced different models with desirable amenities like Bluetooth and better colors? The truth is that we've had the benefit of driving a 40mpg car for a full year longer than most people (aside from Prius owners). Pulling 500 miles out of a 12 gallon tank still feels great in spite of the nefarious marketing behavior at VW.

Every company runs promotions to move product - sweetening the pot with accessories, discounted prices or by offering other incentives. I'm sure this won't be the last offer made for the AF100 as Panasonic works to build its market share. That's the reality.

Didn't see this posted and figured it would be of interest -

Not sure if this is permanent or a limited time thing - but the AF100 now seems to be shipping with the 14-140 lens included.

EDITED TO ADD:
It has been clarified that this is a limited time offer. When the lenses are gone, the deal will be gone.

We got ripped off in Australia. This lens goes for $1400 over here. The US has it for $800. The guy at the camera store suggested buying a Panasonic camera for $1200 that included the 14-140 lens.

FYI the lens doesn't come packaged with the AF100, & needs to be ordered by the dealer, so will take some time to arrive from Panasonic.

We have the free lenses in stock that go with the promo AF100s.
Once we run out of this shipment of AF100s & lenses, the promo is over.

Well, the 14-140 lens offer finally pushed me over the edge. I became an AF100 owner about four hours ago. Got the 14-140 plus an Olympus adapter for my old OM still lenses. Now I'll probably disappear from here for a month or so while I go read all the manuals and practice, practice, practice. :-)

Be sure to check the threads on preset settings, as there is some TERRIFIC information in there that a ton of people around here have worked on. And congrats! :)
