We had an event in Chicago the other day with a bunch of different lenses and accessories on hand. Jan from Panasonic gave a presentation on the camera, and I followed up with an outline of the different gear available for the camera.

Here are some photos from the event - Chicago Event.

And here is my roundup of the different accessories that we have tested with the camera - Lens & Accessory Roundup.

Hopefully this guide will give everyone a good idea of all the new gear that is out there for the AF100.

Anton Bauer is not offering one yet but I heard it might be in the works. Right now we have the Zacuto Redplate with a DoubleMount, which many people are using for battery mounting with other accessories. Redrock has a cheese plate solution which is inexpensive. And finally I've heard Genus is going to be making one as well.

$895 - no question they have a sense of humor. As usual people will say, "you don't like the price, don't buy it". But what if you like just seeing the price, for entertainment value, not for actual paying? I think they could have even greater success in stand-up... like, they could say, "$2495!". I always appreciate when I can go to an online store and I get a good laugh - because life is all about laughter and enjoyment :).

LMAO. Actually, when you think of it, why not just round it up? Make it $1000. Or $3000. Why not? (btw, I understand Abel is not who's dreaming up this $895 hilarity.) But I'm sure Vocas figures if they can readily get $1500 for a matte box, surely a couple dozen people might be willing to pay pay $895 for a couple 15mm rails and a sliding clamp and set screw. They must be military contractors.

Fair enough. We can go lower than that on this item for sure, or put together a full Vocas kit with handgrips, shoulder support, and the rod adapter for less. Let me know if you are interested in the kit or just that part.

We have done group buys in the past so if their is any accessory a number of you want then we could try for it. The larger the group the lower the price. The camera, the nanoFlash, and the Ki Pro Mini are really tough. However we could try to put something together for the Vocas rig or similar.

I suppose I'll appoint myself the spearhead of that venture then (though I'll be happy to relinquish this duty if anyone else wants the pleasure). Can you either post or PM me the volume you'd need, and how much of a discount you can do?

Btw. I have no objection at all to the vendor setting whatever price they wish - it's a free country (so far). My only point is how the vendor does market research in pricing - I mean, if you explicitly mention the af100 as one of the targets, then you are dealing with the kind of customer who buys a sub $5K camera. It's tough in that situation to charge Rolls Royce parts prices for a Toyota buyer. But hey, if someone's willing to pay - more power to you, that's what the free market is all about! Am I in the market? Absolutely, but I'm the kind of guy who comparison shops... and I don't go for the cheapest, but for value, i.e. what my money buys vs what I get. Good luck anyhow, we all benefit by having product come on the market, so I'm not knocking anybody here.

Great. I'll get all the info together and send you a PM tomorrow dcarstens.

OldCorpse, that is a fair statement. I really didn't look at the price of the item before writing about it honestly. I just saw it and thought it was a good solution. Perhaps the kit value will be more in line with the price of the camera. But I can't promise anything.

Thing is; I know the support gear is priced out of whack to the camera - but for the quality stuff you'll only buy it once. 20 years from now that overpriced baseplate will still be doing it's job.
(even though I feel a twinge of anger too)

It would be great if you folks could put together some value focused packages as well. I would think you guys get to play with all the toys. Why not make three: "good, better, best" kits?

That would be an actually great service you could do in your videso as well where you could compare your "good" and show the feature that makes the "better" better and "best" best. I know this really would help many out because sometimes it's so hard to see why one needs to spend that extra dollar.

We are working out the pricing now. It will be a DVXUser member exclusive arrangement. We actually did a number of different group buys on REDUser back when the camera first hit. It would be nice to do this for you guys as well.

Steve: We did put together three kits on our site: AF100 Essential, AF100 Indie, AF100 Cine. Which kind of fits what you are suggesting. Perhaps we could do this with just rigs (not including the camera). We are going to have the camera in house next week in our showroom. So I could do a couple videos with it then. What do you think?
