AF100 internal codec vs Samurai

Any news abot the release date of the Avid codec for samurai? I'm waiting since when I've bought it and I hope it will have the correct gamma for all my windows sw: for me prores files are unusable at the moment. I can import the clips but the color shift is evident

Thanks

Gary

Gary.

Where (how) are you seing the "color shift"?

I have put the internal clips and the Prores clips in the same timeline on top of each other .

Switching between them and I see no change.

Win7 CS5.5 Premiere.

I did the same in After Effects same result.

In outside post facilities I detect no shift and I have also compared the monitors (RGB/wfm)

Don`t want to hijack this, but is there any news on the Connect Converters Igor?
I ordered (and payed) mine quite a while ago at my German dealer.

Thanks, Frank

Prores is supported by CS5.5 or later and by Edius 6.3 or later. I have CS4 and Edius 5.5 and I should upgrade and this means other money. Furthermore I have the same problem if I include a clip in C4D for 3d graphics work or in other software I use. The gamma shifting is well noticeable and this is a known issue. Only CS5 works fine with Prores files and I should like to not upgrade all my software to work with apple files. For this reason I'm waiting Avid codec and I hope it will have the correct gamma for windows

Just for what its worth Gary.

CS5 is more than just a benefit using Prores files.

Its an editing game changer!

Hopefully you may have that experience some day soon.

I've no doubt about this, but NLE I've switched to Edius (with an HD Spark card) and I use CS4 only for compositing and AE/Premiere integration, so I should upgrade 2 and I prefer to wait Avid before. Hyperdeck works fine with all my PC but I should prefer to use samurai, because it is more powerful and friendly... I hope AVID codec will have the right gamma for all windows-based sw

Thanks

Barry,

I am wondering if I were to switch my AF100 to shoot 48FPS over 24FPS in the VFR setting... if the Samurai would record an over cranked clip.

No. No external recorder could do that, because the SDI port can't output it. If you go faster than 30fps, the AF100 splits the frames into fields to embed them in a 1080/60i signal.

I repeat: HD-SDI cannot (CANNOT) carry a 1080/60p signal -- or any frame rates faster than 1080/30p. It just isn't possible. So the camera can't output the high-frame-rate signal, and therefore no recorder can record it.

Somehow bizarre, that the "cheap" consumer HDMI standard is better performing than the professional standard - but well, we still have those locking cables. ;-)
