Af100 hmc150 gh2

I saw the AF100 at Midtown Video Miami, loved the look with zeiss compact primes, the lumix 14-140 not so much. I'd really like to see a comparison of the AF100, HMC150, and the GH2.

Yea I wouldn't mind seeing this either, but I would be surprised to see it...especially with the HMC150 thrown in there.

G.

In what way would you want to see those three compared? I mean, it's like asking for a comparison between a Lexus, a Toyota, and a motorcycle. I mean, I've got all three of them, and I can't think of a way that you could compare them in any meaningful way, other than to state the obvious: one is a $5,000 large-sensor digi-cine camera, one is a $3,000 1/3" fixed-lens ENG camera, and one is an $899 stills camera with a video feature on it...

True Barry. It seems that I remember seeing a comparison in 0-60 and quarter mile that was the Diablo VS the Cadillac (North Star system) VS a motorcycle (Bullet bike) and it was VERY interesting. So...who's going to make this happen? (lol, I know what you're saying Barry....just having fun) :)

I think if you look at it another way the comparison would be rather interesting - The AF100 is the merging of features from the two other cameras IMO. If not for the GH1(and other VDLSRs), this camera wouldn't have happened so soon, and the scene files and MOJO all come from the HMC150, DVX, HVX, etc. I think it would be pretty cool to see them cut together...deep focus shots af100/HMC150 and shallow focus shots af100/gh2. Also I bet a lot of people will be using the HMC150 and GH2 as B-cams for the AF100.....could be helpful to see how they look together.

When I saw that you responded, I thought you were going to say that you had a Diablo, a Cadillac, and a Bullet-bike! :)

I think this is a good topic actually. I'm still unclear if you can mix footage from a hmc150 and a gh2. I've read that the gh2 image quality is so far beyond the hmc150, the mixing always has to be downgraded to 150 level, thus eliminating the main advantage of a large sensor.
Don't know if that's true since I only have the 150 and can't compare. It would be great if the two could work together and a whole lot cheaper than af100 and lens. But if it doesn't really mix, it doesn't mix.

I'd like to see how well the three cut together as well.

I would like to see the imagery cut together to see how close or different that they look. It would be interesting to find out if any of the three cameras could be used together in the same project.

You could use any camera in a project. But expecting different cameras to look the same would be a stretch. When I use different cameras in a project I tend to use one for longer, wider shots and the other for closer shots.
We have used an HVX200 and 7D on projects and after some CC it was hard for the average viewer to know the difference. If anyone has an AF100 and a GH2 I would like to see how the video looks with a side by side comparision - using the same lenses.

Exactly. Hypothetical, imagine a three camera shoot, HMC 150 on a wide shot, AF100 on a cu of one person , GH2 on cu of another person. Would this work? I don't know but it would be interesting how closely they would match. Imagine a concert shoot with these three cameras, could they work together?

I think it's pretty clear a lot of us would like to see this comparison. Sort of an evolutionary roadmap HMC150...great small sensor camera for low budget films/docs. GH1/13/2 Great large sensor camera for really low budget films/docs (with workarounds of course). AF100 - the best of those two worlds? Can either the HMC or the GH cut it as a B Cam for the AF. Can a GH2 and HMC150 in unison provide those of us with less budget a poor man's AF. I think the answer to all 3 questions is yes, but it would be fun to see them in a comparison!

Sure, like I said - there is no law that says you cannot use different cameras on the same shoot.
The only problem would be if you have a client who expects perfection on matching shots.
I have been on shoots where we rented "matched cameras" and they did not look the same.
It is amazing what you can do in post today to match the looks of cameras.

not sure if you guys have seen this thread:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?232659-GH2-as-second-camera-with-HMC-151

this guys owns a gh2 and a 150. Personally, I would love that combo, as the gh2 would give portablility,
DOF, etc. Where the 150 would do everything it does well.

But the comments he gives in the thread are pretty discouraging.

I'd love to get the af100, but it is a huge investement and I'm struggling with it. 5k + at least 2-3k for 2-3 lenses. There's no way I could afford a 2nd cam. if I did that.

But... if that's what's best for the kind of films I have to make....

I have both GH2 and 150 and I'll be shooting with both of them next week. This will be the first side by side and I have a feeling that the GH2 will hold it's on in every capacity and also offer more flexibilty. Since I got the Gh2 the 150 hasn't been used. Both I believe will match pretty well. My initial feeling is that the GH2 image has more contrast but also more detail and shaprness. The 150 can probably handle highlights a bit better..

Either way, it'll be fun... The Gh2 is a very fun camera to shoot with plenty of up sides... The 150 is a workhorse and has a simplified audio workflow... A great combo for sure.
