AF100/FCP-7 workflow?

How are you guys handeling your AVCHD data workflow to FCP? Are you converting your .mts footage to ProRes on a separate software or is there a plug-in that log and transfers in within FCP?

I just started a doc where I am working with massive amounts of footage a day, and want to see some of it on FCP to preview, but it takes hours to convert on a separate software.

Panasonic is releasing a plugin for native editing this summer. Keep checking PASS. otherwise, transcode to prores or DNxHD.

Do you have to use FCP7? Premiere does a really good job with AVCHD .. takes about a minute or two to
import a card .. no transcoding ..

Or get clipwrap

ive been playing around with PPro CS5.5 lately and when i skim over the yellow timeline the playback is very sluggish. im using a 2011 2.3 I7 quadcore macbook pro.

maybe its the internal 5400rpm hard drive thats slowing things down. my boot drive is a ssd which is installed in the optical bay. i will try hooking up my esata graid hard drive to the express card slot and will report back.

I copy card through Shot Put Pro then log and transfer folder inside FCP and convert to ProRes which is maybe a bit "oversized". People say ProRes LT is usually enough and ProRes HQ seems to be overkill and uses definitely too much space. Do check on other programs if they really deliver the appropriate quality - some converters do unbecoming things to the data, it seems. Made some conversions with Toast and they were definitely reduced in quality compared to conversion through log and transfer.
