AF100 and NanoFlash

Ok I remember reading this somewhere on here but can't seem to find it. I just want to verify my experience with others.

I was doing an Alexa shoot Friday and Saturday, and as some of you know the current Alexa firmware doesn't playback clips yet. Because of this we also recorded 35mbps clips on the NanoFlash for playback purposes. Anyway I figured since I had the NanoFlash today I decided to hook it up to my AF100 and do some test. When I hook the AF100 up to the NanoFlash I can record 24p 2 ways. First, I can record the PsF from the camera right in the NanoFlash perfectly; second, I can record the 24p footage embedded in a 60i stream. The first way works but then the camera is limited in some ways when PsF is enabled, the second way is also limited, because nether the NanoFlash nor Cinema Tools can detect the duplicate frames or fields, so pulldown removal seems impossible. Is this everyone elses findings as well or am I missing something?

Dear Friends,

The nanoFlash supports Pulldown Removal from a wide variety of cameras.

However, at the current time, for some unknown reason, we are not compatible with the Pulldown frames added by the AF100.

We have tested this in our lab and confirmed that it does not work.

We will work on this and I am confident that our engineers will determine the cause of the problem and find a solution

Dear Brian,

We detect Pulldown Frames by actually checking for 100% duplicated frames.

Thus, we do not rely on the various schemes that cameras use to identify that a frame is a duplicated.

We just check if the frame is a duplicate by examing the frame, comparing it to the previous frame, then removing it if appropriate.

This works with a wide variety of cameras.

If we can not detect a Pulldown Frame pattern for whatever reason, then we do not perform Pulldown Removal.

We will know more later.

Dan, there's a flag in the timecode stream that identifies "real" fields vs. "pulldown" fields. Might want to add support code for that to the Nano, and then it would guaranteed work.
