AF100 / AF101 - initial report

So Barry: can one record to the SD cards and simultaneously have the outputs from HDMI and SDI and record via those?
Of course. No problem. Record to a Ki Pro Mini through the HD-SDI, record onto a NanoFlash through the HDMI, and record onto the SDHC cards in the camera, all simultaneously. No prob.

If there would be a transcoder that turns our AVCHD code into pure P2 format I would like to try it ;-)

I tried that out back when the HMC150 was released, and I can't recommend it... it takes the 1920x1080 or 1280x720 AVCHD footage and horizontally downsamples it to DVCPRO HD standard, which is 1280x1080 or 960x720. The loss in horizontal resolution was quite noticeable.

I spent the morning over at Panasonic playing with the camera. It's very impressive. Barry has covered all the details, but I second that its going to be a great camera. Skew, Moire, Noise all seem to be very minimal. 60P cranking in 1080 wasn't active yet, but pretty amazing all the same. I can't wait to see the finished version.

Doesnt sound ideal. Prores would be the way to go.

Stephen,

Yes, we do not have official pricing yet, but we can put your name on a list right now. We'll match anyone's price on the camera when it ships. Email Christy <christy@abelcine.com> with the subject "AF100 Pre-order" and we'll put you on the list. Once pricing is announced we will add it to our website for Pre-Order as well. We have about 4 people on the list so far.

Also we have the Ki Pro Mini on our site - Ki Pro Mini - which could be a nice combo.

Andy

I think the real question is will it offer the same "scene file" setting options and flexibility of the HVX and HMC cameras. My understanding is yes, it will.

The answer is "yes, it will."

I think it also has the option to record monochrome (i.e., b&w) but I don't remember if that was for the footage, or just for the EVF. I think it was for the footage.

It doesn't have a scene file dial, like the HVX and HMC, but you can select different looks in the menu. It has the same Gamma modes (Cine V, Cine D, etc) and very similar color adjustments.

What? it doesn't have a scene file dial? :-Cry(DBG):

There is a Wheel to control FrameRates, Shutter, etc. maybe that also controls SceneFile?!! :Drogar-Mad(DBG):
