Had some time on my hands, and thanks to Terry at Texas Media Systems for letting me test out this nifty little box.
On the Samurai, I captured in ProRes 422, and recorded the standard AVCHD onto the AF, then converted to ProRes 422 in FCP. All the clips are now ProRes 422. I wanted to see how it handled color banding in the gradients, shadow, and sharp detail. I got the screen grabs from FCP. I wouldn't say the color of the screen grabs are 100% accurate, but to me, this was a test of detail and smoothing if any. All the screen grabs are zoomed in 200% in the FCP Canvas window.
First is skin detail and light falloff. Pretty obvious.

Next is a tight of plant leaves

Next is grass outside the office. This one is strange, it seems like the footage from the Atamos is more aliased than the AF.

Next is a zoomed in gradient. it's a 250 lowel pro against a thunder grey paper background. I use this background set a lot.

Here's the same shot at normal size.

Here is the same shot, but heavily pushed with the CC 3 way. Mids and whites pushed. Either way, the 8 bit AVCHD doesn't hold up that well, but the Samurai helps.

Last, zoomed in detail of color bars printed out. Not a great print out, but you get the idea.

So my take away is, I would definitely use a Samurai if I was doing any green screen work, and it helps in the gradients, but when I play the video, it's very hard to tell a difference in real time.
