Af 105a announced in japan

LOL, the examples you linked just demonstrated how off-base your original claim of "$1700-2000" was. All three of those AF100 links did indeed sell for $2500 or more. And the one you cited in an earlier post that sold for $2000? That was "For parts or not working".

I just got $3000 on Ebay for the body alone with 240 hours. Cost me $3500 after rebate, net cost to shoot a feature over 4 months, $500.

The dirty secret of all of this is: AG-AF may not be the most "hip" cam around - but it does what we need at an excellent and still unbeatable price point.

Is there any new news on the 100a? I am looking at purchasing an Af100 in the next few months and would like the newest one if possible.

Although the AF200 rumors have been ramping up in LA. If they are to be believed, Pany will be dropping a new cam in the Feb / March
timeframe in the AF space.

Totally word-of-mouth and just scuttle-butt.

ps: no vested interest .. we've gone RED .. but we wish the best for the AF. It would be great.

I would be quite surprised if they didn't. The AC120 was a pretty different thing, I mean, it was identical to the AC130 in all ways except it didn't have a viewfinder on it. It's not like they didn't carry the product line here, we got the AC130 and the AC160, the AC120 was just a slightly different variation.

I guess anything's possible, but I can't see why they wouldn't introduce it here.

Would be interesting to know what if anything has actually been touched exept the firmware... and if this is just the last measure to try and get rid of the remaining AF100(A) stock before anoucement of a true updated model.

Had they included the most important stuff like focus assist and 10bit output (what is now coming with the "AF100A") to the overpriced software upgrade SFU100 it migth actually have made them some money. If I wasnt so strongly invested in m4/3 lenses I would have already jumped ships to some other brand.

I really hope some chinese manufacturer brings out something competitive in m4/3 cinema camera range. Black magic failed to do that by having a tiny sensor and only manual lens attacment. Maybe they will fixit with the next model.

It is typical of Panasonic (and all major camera manufacturers for that matter) that they strip models out of functionality that is already there. Their consumer cams of the same era with AF100 could do 1080p50 for mere 600 EUR but somehow we were supposed to belive that AF100 could not... :) and then there were all these Panasonic forum reps telling us it was impossible for the hardware to accomplish that... yep... suprise suprise.. it can but they need your money to do it :D

Probably already been discussed, but as I see more of what the GH3 is producing, I think Panasonic is out of their minds if they don't/can't/won't make use of that camera's improved sensor (mildly so, but still improved) and bitrate options in any forthcoming "A" model. The GH3 effectively matches or improves upon ~75% of the AF's advantages over the GH2 (timecode, ISO noise, tweakability, audio monitoring, practical VFR, better framerate/bitrate options). In the proposed inception, there are few reasons why I would currently recommend an AF-100A over a GH3.

Incremental though it may be, if you put together the combo of that and optional improved output to, say, a well-integrated, low-footprint P2 recorder, I'm completely in. Otherwise I'll gladly sit out this upgrade cycle.

I already jumped shipped. I hope their 4k generation prosumer large sensor camcorder is closer to what I'm looking for whenever that is released. I'll consider Panasonic at that time.

...And B&H Photo sells it for $1,100 LESS than the AC130a, which is why Panasonic should make an NTSC version of the AC120.

I would be happy to pay under a $1,000 to swap my HMC-150 for a NTSC version of the AC120.

Interesting -- I didn't know B&H was importing that model. Well, two things -- the AC120 isn't an "A", is it? So it's AC120 vs. AC130A, which should account for $400 of that diff. Secondly, those prices make no sense, as compared to the MSRP. I looked around on the European websites and couldn't find the AC120 at all*, but I did find it on the Russian site, and on that site it's listed for 10% less than the AC130. Which seems to make a lot more sense.

*third, is it even still available? Maybe it was just a placeholder model until the AC90 came out? Because it's not listed at all in Panasonic UK, Panasonic Spain, Panasonic USA, Panasonic Canada, Panasonic Latin America... at least that I could find.

Another thing - does anyone know if the AF100A can do 10-bit @ 60P to an external recorder? If so, what recorder can handle 10-bit @ 60P?

Panasonic Australia has done a press release with an RRP for $5691 (the model-number here is AG-AF102AEN): http://www.panasonic.com.au/News+and...irds+Camcorder

Do you guys think the 10-bit will help with dynamic-range? Do we have any information that it is a new sensor compared to the old AG-AF100?

I doubt it'll help with dynamic range, but it should offer SUBSTANTIALLY greater tonality throughout the image; a broader spread of colour and contrast. It may even help clean up some of the harshness with which the highlights tend to clip.

If nothing else, it should offer considerable greater grading options when used in conjunction with a flatter picture profile.

Finger's crossed.

That would be great! If this comes in at $4000-ish, it will be quite a steal! And 10-bit @ 60P will compliment the BMCC well!

Hopefully it's a new sensor with a stop or two more dynamic-range - guess we'll find out soon!

I am receiving the 100a Monday from Adorama for $4,135. Had the 100 for a short time and really liked the results using a Samurai external recorder with the DNxHD codec. Am eager to see if the update yields any improvement NOTE: Adorame has a return policy whereas B&H has a no cancel/no return policy on this item and lists at $400 more. (last time I checked)

Preston, please post some footage, from what I heard, the 100a has somewhat different signal processor, possibly resolving some issues people were complaining on different forums about AF100, claiming that it has a GH1 processor with GH2 chip.
Look forward to that!
