Fooling around with FCP and did a log and transfer of the MTS on the SD cards and the clips got converted to apple pro res no problem. You have to make sure that you keep all the original files in the AVCHD folder. I just copied over the folder from the card onto a back-up hard drive and had no problems doing the transfer. Now looking into the image quality. Need more coffee.

Clipwrap is another option to transcode the mts files. The advantage with clipwrap is that you font need the folder structure - just the mts files.

Thanks bgundu. FCP does take more time, but is there a quality difference between Clipwrap and FCP Log and Transfer?
