Advice for shooting DVX100B for HD output

I would like to describe a request which I have received, and if anyone has any advice how to proceed, I would truly appreciate your input:
1) I am asked to shoot an interview with a 100B for HD output. Should I use the "squeeze" mode or rent a 16:9 adapter? My understanding is that the optical method is preferred.
2) This is more of a Final Cut question, but this interview footage will be sent to the UK, and I have been told the preferred format is
"HD PAL 1080i XDCAM (EX3)"
Can I simply choose XDCAM as a project setting and bring SD anamorphic footage in, will that work?
If I export the finished piece as an XDCAM .MOV file, does PAL or NTSC have anything to do with it?

Should I even attempt this with a 100B or rent or hire an HD camera?
Again any comments are appreciated.

The anamorphic lens adapter certainly gets you better resolution, but I have seen plenty of DVX footage shot in Squeeze then up-rezzed to HD frame size that has looked great.

As for conversion, capture your footage as DV since it's a direct transfer of data that way. There's no reason to use FCP at all after you capture your footage. Use Compressor to convert your footage to XDCAM.

hi, you sould do:

1.- shot on squeeze mode
2.- 24pA or F6
3,. Capture as a Advance pulldown removal, frame rate 23,98fps (i use final cut)
4.- edit on a sequence 23,98 as anamorphic
5.- export it as a 1280x720

I shot a wedding rehearsal with these settings yesterday, but I didn't capture into Final Cut Pro with advanced pulldown removal. Do I need to recapture this footage all over again?

Thanks for your replies. I ended up using a rented Sony EX3 for the job, shooting native PAL 1080 50i. This is a very nice camera if you get the chance to use one.

1. Turn sharpening down to -4 at least.
2. Shoot 24PA.
3. Check your focus.
4. Make contrasty imagery.

That's honestly the only advice that I can give. The anamorphic adapter can provide higher resolution video but it's such a hassle I don't use it. Just shoot squeeze. Here's a short I made that I scaled to 720p for output if you want to see how it worked for me. :-)

I second this and you can also use Instant HD.

Amazing

Amazing

Your movie is amazing. The quality is purely astonishing. Did you shoot in sqeeze mode, did you use any peculiar optics ? I'm blown by the quality of your images. Congratulation anyway, I'm surprised there isn't more viewing on your film.

Thanks for all the nice comments you guys. :-)

Nothing special happened here really; there weren't any ground glass adapters or special filters in place. I just shot the images that I thought were important, and made sure to colour correct in way that championed the tone of each segment. To he honest, the HD versions of my images look almost identical to their SD counterparts, so I can't really say that converting to HD helped the look. It did, however, make things look a little better on Youtube. I'm actually very happy with my 480p master when I'm offline...

Anyway, I hope you guys got something from the film and I hope that developing the feature length version goes as planned.

C2V when in compressor there is no XDCAM preset the only way to use XDCAM is select something like DVPRO HD or HDV then change the video settings to XDCAM 1080i or P is that what you mean or is there some other preset you were talking about?
