FS5: Advice for Cine Lenses

If cinema glass is a must have you might check out Veydra lens. Great build quality, smaller sized and good glass. Plus the price is reasonable. For the fs7 and fs5 these are a great match. I also use a set of canon zooms for run and gun stuff and the cinema tokina 11-16. One of the things I like best is the options this mount gives you, especially compared to a c300 or even a red. The metabones adapters even give you an extra stop. Bob

i really enjoyed the feel of the Veydras and have been considering a set. I only rented the 25mm but the focus and build was quite solid. I didn't get the best images out of it but that was more due to being my first time on the fs5 and not knowing how to best utilize it. For now I'm very happy with a Leica R Summicron set. I know they are still lenses but the look is creamy and cinematic and with a follow focus the throw is quite workable. I'm debating if the next set I get is the Veyda or Zeiss Batis (for auto and gimbal use)

Don't let the cheap price of the Rockinon/Samyang cine lenses steer you away. The Samyang F1.4 really is on par with the 4 x expensive Canon f1.2.

What do you mean? Are you referring to color rendition and sharpness compare to the Leyca lenses?

in my side, as there are no Veydra lenses for rent in Japan, I’m buying the 25mm to have a look. I can still resell it if I’m not happy with it.

Yes the Rokinon are probably the cheapest cine-style lenses and not necessary the worth ones.

I looked at the Zeiss Milvus as already mentioned but they are expensive in Japan.

Yeah my colors were way off as I wasn't shooting with correct gamma or white balance in Slog. The sharpness was there.

While I like the look and the speed of the Sigma 18-35 and own one, it is NOT parfocal, which makes it a pain in a run and gun situation. I also own two Rokinon prime lenses, the 12mm, and the 85mm which are both very nice lenses and not expensive. The Sony 18-105 is parfocal and I find that when I am in a hurry and need a little reach in addition to the wide, it is the lens I put on the camera. It is far from perfect, but it gets the job done.

The Cinema Glass rework of the 18-35 looks interesting, but it is five times the cost of the Sigma, of course, you are getting a much nicer lens to work with.

The rehoused lens is nice of course, i was wondering if the canon mount have the electronic contact.
Do you know about it?

Personally I think of the Sigma 18-35 as a variable prime because its so sharp and fast for a wide angle. For run & gun I need a longer zoom 24-70 or 24-105 with speed booster. I'd like to find a Sigma 24-105 that was parfocal.

May i ask. Have you experience with zeiss cp2 21mm, 28, 50, 85 .. Not superspeed. I have a posibility to buy from a bank ruptsy. Abort 40% under listprice. Price seems okay. What about quality.
