Hello all,

I have just bought an XL2 camera and I am thinking of starting with 24p shooting. I live in Greece, so we are using PAL here.

What problems will I encounter with 24p PAL and Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5?

I have to emphasise on the "PAL", as I have read a great deal of the problems that people have with 24p and Premere Pro 1.5 using NTSC.

Pleae help me, this is very crucial and serious for me!!!! Thank you all in advance!!!

PS. Bear in mind that I am completely new to XL2 and 24p...

there is no 24p in pal.. if you have a PAL camera youll use 25p, and it works great .. just set up a 50i project and set it to "no feilds progressive" . .. thats all. and if you dont use a progressive timeline, you can mix 25p and 50i on the timeline without a hitch.. it should work great for you.. theres no problems with 50i or 25p in PPRO at all like there is for 24p in NTSC.

good luck and have fun.

Dear iamloser,

thank you really very much for the quickest reply and advice!!!

However, as I am new to all these, please bear me for a little more...

I wanted to use 24p for a film-like impression on my projects. Will 25p do the same? If not. what do I have to do to "imitate" film feel on my projects?

Thanks again in advance!!!

25p is so close to 24p (1 frame difference per second), it will be practically indistinguishable to the average eye. If you are a stickler about it though, what people usually do is slow the 25p footage down 4% to achieve 24p.

Hello mgalvan,

when you say "slow down the 25p footage 4% to achieve 24p", do you mean from inside Premiere Pro 1.5???

Thank you in advance for your advice...

stevecom, I suggest you try out some 25p shooting first and see if it is OK (I believe it will be ). Staying with PAL frame rates will make things a lot easier. If you insist on converting to 24p you might have problems viewing your project properly on a PAL monitor during the editing stage.

By the way, the XL2 has a default shutter speed of 1/25s in 25p mode. Unless you like a lot of motion blur, you should change the speed to 1/50s (or whatever speed you prefer) every time you switch on the camera.

yes, I have to agree with jaegersing ....

Unless you intend to transfer you project to film, there really is no point to convert your footage to 24p. 25p will play perfectly on PAL monitors, but not 24p. If you were to convert, where will you then watch your footage?

25p really looks pretty much like 24p. Just enjoy it :-)
