Advice about new camera purchase for University video lab

Hi All

I manage a video lab in an art department at a University. We are finally looking to upgrade our Sony VX2100s/PD170s to something HD. We have a few candidates and I was hoping to get the advice of people with some experience with these cameras.

We are currently considering 4 cameras
Canon XF100
Panasonic AG-HMC150
Panasonic AG-AC130
Sony NX5

I am personally leaning toward the XF100 and HMC150 mainly because of size. Our students are making video art not films so a smaller camera would allow them more flexibility with how they shoot. Are there major differences between the newer CMOS in the XF100 and the older CCD in the HMC150? Also the Canon can record at a higher bit rate than any of the other cameras listed here. Has anyone noticed a major difference because of this?

For the AG-AC130 and NX5 these are kind of at the top of our price range. My Dean seems to really like the NX5 for whatever reason so it is a possibility for us. Is the 3CMOS in these cameras that much of an upgrade from the XF100 or HMC150? I've checked out some comparisons on this site and it seems with the right settings the differences are less than I expected.

Also has anyone had any durability issues with any of these cameras?

Obviously I posted this in the Canon forum, but are there any rules against cross posting in the other forums? I just want to get as many opinions on this as possible.

Thanks for the help.
