I got pretty bored yesterday.... and I wanted to shoot something. I have a cool picture of a water pouring into a wine glass that I shot a while back, and I decided to re-create it in motion. I might shoot some more angles and cut a little spec ad with a VO inserted and music this weekend if I have the time.

NOTE: Footage being "improved" I'm getting rid of the splatter on the glass.... stay tuned.

Shot with Andromeda :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I like how the andromeda looks, and this is some nice footage, but I feel like you should take more care in your pouring. For an advertisement, a viewer isn't gonna wanna see all that splatter that comes and coats the top parts of the glass before the wine reaches it. Is that even real wine?

It's just water. I hear yeah on the splatter though, not sure how I can make that less apparent though. Any ideas? I'm mostly just messing around, but I do like perfection :) You know... Maybe they rotoscope that stuff out. I find it very hard to pour any liquid into a glass and not have some kind of splatter, especially if it bubbles, the bubbles tend to fizz and hit the glass.

LOVE that look Chris!!

How'd you light that/what is the backdrop? got any pre-color grading grabs (straight from andro)?

I'm gonna have to agree with the above statement, though... the pour is pretty rough... it looks like someone peeing in the glass:evil:

RAW footage rendered using my custom rendering LUT (this ISN'T linear footage anymore)

Post color correction, gotta love what a full 10 bits RGB can do for you in post... In this shot, I have removed the splatter. I've never been able to pour into this glass very cleanly. Its rather narrow, so I think thats why. I did selective unsharp masking on the glass and water. Andromeda unsharps really well. I didn't like all the darn wrinkles in the backdrop, so I blurred that junk out (remember, I'm doing this whole shoot in my small bedroom, with limited resources... I pick my battle carefully!) Because the blur gets rid of grain, I put grain BACK in, to match the glass. This shot was lit for this type of super rich contrast on purpose, using a.... SPOT METER BABY! :) Adding contrast to any format highlights noise/grain, always, so I knew this would happen going in. I shot using my magenta filtering trick to help with noise. The original noise in the gradient wasn't too bad really, looked like a very very fine mist. I don't consider ugly macro blocks and banding "film like". Never have, never will. All footage was render out to 16 bit tiff image sequence.
