Adrift - shot on 5DII & 7D

Loved the photography, framing etc.

But two points. I don't know of any women who sleep with makeup on (unless....) and I found the small object in her nose at 1:35 distracting.

Beautiful!
Great short!

Awesome that you had a foley, that's so cool..

Did you use any ND filters?

Paul there certainly were some eye pleasing images in there.

Couple of things I wanted to bring up, actually theres more but Ill touch on the things that stand out nto a greater degree from my own perspective.

At around 0:32 you pull focus to the ring. Then throughout the short theres no further reference to it - Im just wondering what the point is? It doesnt tie anything together etc. Not sure if youre trying to show she's all grown up and married now - does being married add anything then? I dont think so as clearly she's older.

At about 1:08 you cross the line, your following her from one perspective and then cross over so it looks like she's walking backwards. Is that the intention? There seems no motivation for her to do so.

At around 1:13 you go from a MCU to MS then cut back to CU front on. Personally I dont think any of these cuts added anything to the story, felt more like the shots you had, so thats the shots you were going to use. I think a better more paced approach would have her walking to shot 3 there. You could have tracked focus from her a to b where she finishes.

There's a number of cuts throughout where you hold extra frames (varying) after she walks through shot. I would keep your cuts here on action. As she leaves the frame there isnt really anything to look at that assists the story. That might have been a useful tool had you say used a walkthrough wide where you wanted to show the expanse of space the young girls in. Which would also tie in to the dream component - expanse of space.

Overall Id say this was more of an idea than a short. Let me explain. From your website, it sounds like you guys thought up a concept and then let it roll from there. At the end it comes together as a series of pretty shots that tie the two people together. You dont show any point to why this occurs or any need for it to occur. Thats fine, its a neat idea as it is. This kind of idea or concept however can work beautifully in a tvcm or music vid.

You say this is your first short, so I wanted to take the time to try and give you some constructive feedback.

Very nice!

You get such rich images in broad daylight, would you mind detailing your process a little bit? Did you use lights or reflectors, lots of ND, a warm look in post, etc?

I really enjoyed that!! the images were beautiful and the story was really cute! Its hard to get both haha. Really quality stuff
