Adorama rep: "we receive 7D on October 1st."

They can tell you how many orders they have, but not where you are on the list (which seems a bit ridiculous).

When I last asked (sometime last week) it was at over 400.

EDITED TO ADD:
Just checked, I was told "400 or so" orders on Sept 14th.

When I asked I was told they had no idea.... which I also find hard to believe.
I asked the guy if he could guess, and he said no.
Which tells me he either really has no idea...or he knows its well under 400 and didn't want to say that.

I also dropped them a line to see if they could confirm the Oct 1st release that was mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but haven't heard back yet. Doubtful they'll confirm much of anything though.
 
Double wow... I hope he really didn't know, cause it does sound like they may be hiding that they didn't order enough.

Thanks for sharing the info Luis. Tomorrow I am calling around to see what to do. I can start ordering stuff on Tuesday. Hope Samy's will have enough, that way I can just pick it up since I should have everything else before then.
 
It is perfectly reasonable to believe that the companies have not received allotment numbers from Canon yet. How many they order doesn't always equal how many they receive.

I called Adorama about a week ago and my salesman told me they usually get stock in 300 to 500 unit batches, so I doubt it's "well under" 400.

Either way - a few of you may have just moved up a spot, as I canceled my Adorama preorder today.

The sales agents at Adorama do NOT know how many we will be getting in, because they have not yet been informed.......

It is also impossible to give out with any accuracy the position that an individual customer is on our back order list, because so many customers have placed multiple orders from a number of retailers.

According to Lisette Ranga, a camera marketing representative at Canon USA, the Canon EOS 7D is to be released in the U.S. and Canada beginning in six to eight days, ie they will begin to ship from Canon distribution centers to retailers in the first part of next week.
Canon Canada has informed dealers that the camera will depart from Canon's warehouses starting on Monday, September 28.
Therefore, we expect that 7D should be in the hands of our many US and Canadian customers who have this on back order, by the end of next week.
 
Great news Helen! Thanks for the info! My salesman was generally speaking about new product shipments, not about the 7D unit specifically.. So no need to chew anyone out for spilling any beans, not that you would :) Thanks for the update!
 
Guilty! I have pre-ordered at 3 stores, including Adorama. If you want my $$$, Adorama, you best ship to me quick! lol. Seriously though, thanks Helen for the info. :)

I just called Adorama and was told they will be getting them "by the end of December"! And that they definitely have more pre-orders that they will first receive.
