ADOBE CS5 D-Day April 12th

Wow, that was fast. Proves just how bad CS4 sucked (Premiere in particular)...

Hopefully, they don't drop a half-thought out "up-grade" this time. I'm sure they won't.

Now this is really going to put pressure on Final Cut Pro and the sucker punch that was Apple's last release.

Be happy if we all see new 64bit fcp/fcs by 2012, since Apple is too busy concentrating on making their consumer gadgets.

The teaser site at Adobe only says we will be getting our "first look" at CS5 on April 12. But it doesn't mention that you can purchase it at that time. I wonder if we are looking at an actual shipping date of May or June perhaps?

The Adobe Mercury Playback Engine is astounding for Premiere, and I would imagine AE, but only if it is stable.

Performance is based on a nvidia GPU which runs parallel with your CPU in a 64-bit environment, which comes at a price. The 285 GX is about $450.00 and the 480 is three time + more.

Wonder if this is the real deal or marketing.

This is always a threat. It sounds great but will it be stable and affordable?

When Edius 6 comes out, the Mercury engine might look like hardware overkill in comparison.

I am most interested in AE and Encore.

The system they were using in those demo videos was a beast. I'm curious to see how Mercury will perform in a more standard (aka affordable) environment.

I hear AE 32bit aka almost all plugins (other than the ones that ship with cs5) will not work because its 64-bit now. The companies will have to upgrade which may mean paying. Quite stupid on Adobe's part.

Abode is leading the way with 64-bit apps. They're pushing technology forward - that's a good thing. The plugins will catch up, but I'll gladly give them up in the short term for better performance in the long run.

So we should stay in a 32 bit enviroment forever? You got to upgrade sometime, and that always comes with a cost. Keep both versions of Adobe if you need an old plugin.

I agree...it will suck to break some of the old plugins, but with HD video being commonplace, we need to get out of these 32 bit environments. I'm all in favor of Adobe going fully 64 bit.

I adobe don't go 64 the plug in companies wouldn't work on 64 based plug ins. There must be something that moves the technology forward.
