Adobe alternative

I use adobe products for at least 20 years, but with the latest adobe cc 2015 I had enough. I don't like the look and feel of premiere pro, crashes a lot and is slow.
Does anyone have the same issue and found an alternative?

I work with PC
- Davinci?
- other?

You have a few options, being on a Mac I can't vouch for all of these but check out:

Newtek
Hitfilm
Lightworks
Sony Vegas

Or there is always Avid, which I personally like but may not fit your needs/workflow.

This is a conundrum many of us have faced when Apple "X'd" FCP. I have tried Avid and Lightworks, but they didn't suit me. My partner has beta tested Lightworks and loves it. I haven't tried DaVinci but it looks as if they have made some nice improvements and may be relevant in the NLE landscape soon...

I'm waiting for DaVinci Resolve 12 - my expectation that it'll have much better NLE (it's available in Resolve 11 but not up to my needs/standards). It should be released any time soon. With that you will get the best of color correction/grading and editing without any need for round trips. Resolve Lite is completely free and the difference between the full version and Lite is not that significant but even the full version at $995 is affordable.

Now, if you use Adobe After Effects, you can switch to Fusion - a powerful compositing tool with a true 3D space (which is not the case with Adobe AE); also, it's a node base tool. And again, the Fusion is completely free - and more than enough for most users. Full version, Fusion Studio, is only $995 ( if you need things like network rendering, stereo compositing and some other stuff - which is usually used only by larger compositing businesses). Fusion was recently bought by BMD, and there is a hope that this wonderful but neglected (by its previous owner) software will again compete with things like Nuke.

As a Mac user, I didn't try the BMD version of Fusion - it's currently available only on PC, but BMD is working full speed (according to it's CEO) on its Mac reincarnation. I hope changes coming will include tighter integration with the Resolve line of products. If this happens, basically it will mean that users will get for free (or at a much lower cost) the full and very powerful suite of applications that cover most needs of many independent filmmakers.

I'm going to the BM event in NYC new week where they'll be DEMOing Resolve 12, so I'm looking forward to checking it out. It seems as if BM is going for the FCP7 crowd that is annoyed with Adobe's Cloud subscription. If they can deliver a one-two punch a la Premiere/After Effects they will definitely make a splash in the NLE game...

From what I see in the preview videos Resolve 12 looks really promising. Lots of editing improvements and completely overhauled audio engine. Currently the audio features and more complex editing is painful in resolve, but if all the issues are addressed I will definitely give it a go.

That's not good. I haven't experienced that yet. What type of footage are you working on?
4K XAVC-I, but I'm also working on a visualisation project with only ProRes HD files and same stuff. Random "media export error"s. Cannot leave export alone because it may end up with failure. Extremely long exports with CUDA on - cannot find pattern why. All around performance wise total dog, waste of your time and nerves. I STRONGLY advise anyone against using it for any serious project at this point in time. Even if it works for you now (as it did for me at the beginning) it can start failing big time. In that case you're screwed - you cannot take PP15 projects to PP14.

And if you'll reject to take my advise and decide to risk and work in it, avoid at all costs using a lot of new effects (ie. lumetri). Cut it in PP15 and grade it somewhere else.

PP15 is a nightmare (at least for me - MBP i7 16GB 1TB GF750M 2GB 10.9.5).

Occasional crashing issues aside, I think premiere is in it's prime. I've been a premiere user since 2001. It was great back then, there was a period where I was considering switching to avid for better codec support but now Adobe has really created a winner. Creative cloud is great and the new Lumetri filter is exactly what I've been wanting for years.

Yes, If only you could export, haha :D

Edit: but of course this is my experience (and a lot of others too: check adobe forum). This is a problem with every single revision of software at the beginning. But I was expecting that PP15 will be at least working same PP14 when it comes to core functionalities. Was expecting a little bit more from Adobe.

I am very happy with Edius. Adobe burned me on version 6.5 so not much they can do to win me back. Also, I prefer not to edit in the cloud.

Ouch!.. sorry about your problems. I am working on a feature doc (DVCPRO HD, AVCHD, PRO RES HQ), and I haven't encountered any major problems yet, but I haven't tried an export yet -- now I'm a bit worried :(... BTW if you are on Yosemite, have you installed the newest update? I remember CC 2014 was having some issues and an OS update helped -- just a shot in the dark...

How is post audio within Resolve? To switch from Premiere it would be required that the audio side of things at least matched the Premiere+Audition combo. Or if it didn't, at least it should have good integration with Pro Tools, which I could now afford by saving money with the Lite version of Resolve instead of an Adobe subscription.

IMO Never trust adobe for long form projects be it narrative or factual . You are just asking for it. Avid still works the best in this environment whilst it's crap-tacular for short form TVC' s and the like . Fcpx and premier both work well here.

The dark horse is Resolve & with Fusion coming online a possible signpost for the future.

One thing for sure the subscription model at the moment isn't working well . The web appears to be awash with ops. bemoaning the constant crashing of CC. Premier & they're been charged a monthly fee for the privilege.

Since you can rent both Media Composer and Lightworks, it seems like just a choice of finding something you like. FYI, Fusion plugs into Lightworks too, it was one of the first plugins they got working when they rolled out the free beta years ago. By it's lineage it must also be good for long form work. I like some of it's tools much better than MÇ, I think the trimming works more logically for me, though syncing audio/video assests could be a little easier (might be fixed in 12.5).
