AdFest 2007

Just noticed this:

Deliverables must be formatted as 16:9 or 2:35 anamorphic in the requested file format.

Is anyone aware of any commercials that have been made in 2.35? I'm curious, because this had never occurred to me before. Surely there have been a few, but I can't think of any. Even 16:9 is pretty rare, still.

i find alot of medicals adds are done in cinescope. I like it, makes it feel very cinematic.

So, may i join anyone's team?

When im watching TV from the OTA Digital Broadcast during prime time most the commercials are 16X9 with 5.1 Dolby Digital audio...

I can see Ted's entry for this contest... I Fing use this Fing product all the time. What the F does it do? Glad you asked... when you F up, it gets you back on track...

OK. I won, where is my prize?
:) heh, seriously though, I'm in. Got a crew, actors and ad idea. Actually will be entering 2, mine and a friends.

This festival really opens up some possibility about 3d animation in the project. What if the entire thing is a 3d animated commercial? Would that qualify since technically it's not "shot" on any camera?

i vote yes to that, it is not about what camera you have, it is about what images you produce and what stories you tell etc.

The only portion of the rules that would seem to be pertinent to the question of whether an all 3D entry would qualify:
All cameras eligible for prizes.

In my opinion, that would necessarily cover a "virtual" camera. Anyone using a 3D package has to deal with the same issues of focal length, framing and camera movement as "real-world" cameras and, as agwah says, in the end it is the story that matters. The objective here should be to encourage filmmaking and it should be a good thing to embrace all manner of tools in that quest.

I just sent straight AI CS (1) versions of the logo in EPS and AI formats to Larry to post. Sorry for the delay, but I had an emergency root canal Thursday afternoon and I've been in a haze of pain and codeine-induced spaciness for the last couple of days.

An animated spot is fine, but I'd encourage everyone to actually shoot some live footage since we're not really an animation site. But things are pretty open.

Sorry I'm sure this is a dumb question

Sorry I'm sure this is a dumb question

Do you want to see the prologue and events that leed to the commercial or just the commercial and credits ?

Just the commercial bookended by whatever they asked for in the first post

A commercial should be a free standing thing that doesn't need a prlogue or any explaining outside the commercial. And yes that would include the really weird playstation commercials for example because you are not supposed to get them, so no outside explanation required.

The only possible exception would be a series of ads. Once the ads are out and well known they may do one in a more or less shared short hand. But I wouldn't do that here since it's just the one, possibly two ads, so again I wouldn't do one that you cannot get within the allowed time, and with no outside explanation.

Not sure if that is what you were asking but hopefully that answered your question.

And rare is the client that approves a series of ads that needs all of them to form a cohesive whole.

JDS is spot-on about not needing a prologue. As I once wrote in my good-bye manifesto to a former agency: Never underestimate the intelligence of your audience. The subtleties of value-priced hemorrhoid cream are lost on few.

This thread is the prologue and event leading to your commercial. :) As Jack mentioned, just focus on the deliverable which I've spelled out very specifically above.

Hey guys I was wondering if you could do two :15 sec bookends (where the first spot would run early in a commercial break then the other spot later in the break), as long as you show the logo in both would this work?

Probably soon ... Jarred was busy moving the forum over to a new server and dealing with all the issues related to a move of that nature.

Now that things are running smoothly again he should have time to create the AdFest forum fairly soon.
